Testing times............

Lets see how Rossi goes today in Valencia. The Golden Gnome
aka Napaleon aka Todt has categorically stated there is no deal in place for Rossi . He would say that, wouldn't he.
I prefer to think of it as Rossi training rather than testing. Schumaker look out......

Montoya gets the hump

"I won't wait for Ron to make up his mind" he said and he is looking around to see what he's going to do. There has been no decision on what is going to happen at McLaren and he is open to offers and can't wait to see whether Ron makes up his mind. He went on he is not waiting for anybody and will see who offers him what he wants.
I guess Ron will have to employ a non destructive test man now Montoya has taken the hump - he did all the destructive testing up to now. Precocious big girls blouse - would probably have been shown up by the deigo Alonso anyway.......

Re: Renault to remain in F1

O.K. Rossi at Tormo Valencia did a best lap of 1.12.856.which was quicker than such notables as David Coulthard and Jarno Trulli. Not a bad effort from "The Doctor". An Italian legend driving a legendary Italian F1 car.How much would that be worth to the Ferrari sales Dept?

Re: FRIDAY in Valencia

Pete,
what makes it more impressive is that V. Rossi did this in a 2004 car !
He will replace Schu in 2007 or earlier if Schu throws his toys out of the pram- no doubt - but Yamaha have stated that his (Rossi's) main job is driving their M/cycles and this ferrari 'training' is just a hobby.
Did Nelson put his telescope to his blind eye and say "I see no ships".

Re: FRIDAY in Valencia

David, I think it would make more sense for Ferrari to keep
Shu as No1 driver and have V.Rossi as No2. Or would that be too big a strain on the budget?

2006 Season

Who knows? Only Raikonnen and Montezemolo know what they've agreed. Todt (Napoleon's double)made it clear that he wanted the Finn and it would obviously be as lucrative, if not more so, than driving for Big Ron. Big Ron's team has suffered brain drain of late though Whippy (Whitmarsh - Big Ron’s sidekick) seems to think that will have no effect. Seems a lot of people think otherwise and I think it may unnerve a few people in the team - Raikonnen for one?
Italy would go into ecstasy if Rossi does the business next year. They would invent more public holidays than they have already. I still think 2007 line up will be the 'Yamaha kid' and the 'drunken penguin on helium'.
It might be worth a wager at William Hill as they can work out odds on just about anything these days.

Re: 2006 Season

FIA : THE BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

The Belgian National Sporting Authority, the RACB, has written to notify the FIA of the withdrawal of the 2006 Belgian Grand Prix from the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The withdrawal has been made in order to allow the completion of extensive improvement work to facilities at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

The FIA hopes that the event will be included once again in the Formula One World Championship calendar from 2007 onwards.

Berger moves at last......

Gerhard Berger, former F1 driver, has bought in to the former Minardi team with 50% holding. Makes sense as he's an Austrian and so is Dietrich Mateschitz, the other 50% holder. The team was renamed from Minardi to Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Re: Berger moves at last......

One of Gergers company's build trucks and trailers in Austria with about 450 staff. Mateschitz brews his drink in Austria and Switzerland and he wants Red Bull to do their own distribution hence the requirement for trucks. Berger was one of the first to promote Red Bull in about 1988/9.
Sort of an Austrian roundtable / rotary club deal ?
But that is one of the nice things about Austria as well -
Not a lot of PC and keep it in the Austrian 'family'.
IMHO based on friends and dealings in the Zeltweg area.

Speed: V8 is as fast as V10

Sauber, whoops - sorry - BMW have given details that their V8 is just as fast as the V10 despite being about 200hp less.
Reasons postulated are better Aero's, better cooling, and tyres.
Some things never change.........

Re: Speed: V8 is as fast as V10

The season should be interesting; new v8's vs detuned 'old' v10's; with reliability coming really to the fore. Counterintuitively the new v8's have more vibration problems than the old v10's; how many will last two races ?.

Re: Speed: V8 is as fast as V10

They are already lasting the required time of 2 Gps during testing and I assume they have done the same scenario with simulation on the dyno to get them this far. These V8's have been under development for some time now.

Re: Speed: V8 is as fast as V10

Testing is one thing, actual race /practice is another. Certainly more than one team has had problems thusfar). All the bets are not in yet; lets wait and see, particularly with the slightly more onerous qualifying and the increased heat soak during the new pit stop regimes.

David

Not sure if it was put in place but it was kicked around that only 1 person can work on a wheel at pit stop so that would then increase the wheel change time and pit stops considerably and when the car's aren't moving they heat up PDQ

Ian
