| Hockenheimring in trouble. The Ring Management have declared they are in deep financial trouble and have taken a few unusual steps to ensure their survival. The new Mercedes grandstand has been sold off and the Ring rent it back for the F1 races. The town of Hockenheim have also stumped up €22m making them a 51% share of the circuit and the holder and the 'Badischen Motorclub' (BMC) have the other 49%. There is genuine concern that the F1 race cannot be staged there.

Rep Power: 25 | Re: Ferrari and Martini deal Hi David, thanks for the updates - it's difficult to get hard news this quickly. A friend was in Valencia recently planning a music concert and so spent some time in the in-field with local authorities. It just so happened the new Ferrari was testing and whilst my friend is not totally knowledgeable about F1, he reckoned they were ****kin quick! (His very words) What's the inside skinny on that?
It'll be good to see Martini back in the premier division of motorsports too. |

Spa Franchochamps was the nicest track in today narcotic formula one, for many enthusiast that remained the true last track for extreme cars and real race pilots.
I really dunno if I will see much more than the first 5 minutes of every formula 1 races, really.
Find much much more interesting the v8 supercar races

| Re: Spa etc Fred,
Thank you for that information. It really saddens everybody concerned especially the legions of fans who trek to Spa every year. The top of the hill at Rivage will be eerily silent this year as it was two years ago as well. It really is a major blow to the area around Spa, Malmedy, and Stavelot where many Belgians rely on the major events such as this. Stranger things happen though and it's a while away yet. Lets see.
Keith,
Unable to answer your question. I don't know. Too many variables at the moment - v8's,v10's, old chassis, new chassis, heavy, light, in between, tyres (new compounds and different tyre rules). Incidentally, the F word (Ferrari) have named their car the 248 F1 (2.4 litres 8 cyl) instead of F2006 and the number on his car is 5. Another day's testing tomorrow.
Renault official 'launch' on 31st January. |

Rep Power: 28 | Re: Spa etc ...maybe is anyway better they deleted Spa.
Looking at all the UGLY changes they make over the historical nice tracks , will be a too great shame look that track changes again.
I costantly see the uglyness of such works in Monza, 1993 Monza was a TRACK..today one is a Formula 1 track.
Everytime I see a race down there, there are ALWAYS problems in the chicanes done ONLy for formula one.
See all the other cars moving in that point(stopping and restarting) is a real pain in the a**.
Maybe really better they go to other places.

| Green grass.............. Two more Aerodynamicists are quitting at McLaren. What are big Ron or Whitmarsh doing to upset these guys ? One is joining Adrian Newey at Red Bull and the other going to Maranello. |

Rep Power: 15 | Re: Green grass.............. Yes,major changes occured over the last years on the Spa track and is now a totally other circuit including the Raidillon corner.
I used to Race during 10 years on endurance bikes (Honda fabric 1000cc) and did 6 times the 24H at Spa in the 70ties on the old track.Needles to say you needed G on this fast and dangerous circuit for bikes.
But the new circuit is fabulous too.
I was at dinner with Alonso a couple of months ago and asked him how he went into the raidillon:he said FLATT!!!!but confessed only when tires were relatively new (2 rounds).
He also mentionned that he takes this corner just trough his head and as a reflex without even looking into the corner
I mean real G

| New Old News.....N.O.N. ? Valentino Rossi will test with Ferrari this coming week.
Not really news except that Napoleon (Jean Todt) has given Rossi this test at Valencia alongside other current F1 drivers. Look out Schumaker - In advance I wonder what his (Schumacher's) excuse is going to be
maybe there is an 'R' in the month - Rossi !!
I would expect him to go faster anyway - he will be using the older car (maybe the f2004) rather than the 248. |

| Re: F1 is boring me to death !!!!..... I suppose there are other forums with NASCAR, Indy, and Champ threads which are probably much more interesting. I guess when Gary started this thread , he picked a great title which has endured and has caught people's attention.

| Re: F1 - not quite so boring..... Ben - on the money - it was Alonso's V10 after Shanghai.
No cooling, and run up to incredible RPMs (20K+). All the lights were dimmed to dramatic effect and everybody gathered aorund it. I thought it was going to explode.
I retired about 50 yds away - Health and Safety grounds.
Tim - on the money as well but I guess the V angle was wrong to make it into a V8.
Nice one guys.
