Bathurst Endurance race V8 Supercars.

Have read todays paper and not one word.
Glad you're on the ball or I may have missed it He He.

I can't wait. I'll be watching it on my home-made HD projector on my home-made 3m diagonal screen.

I hope Tander gets the monkey off his back and resumes the championship lead.

It amazes me how little attention the media gives to the V8s. It is actually the 3rd most popular sport in Australia but you wouldn't know it by looking at the newspapers' sports pages. Pages dedicated to soccer and netball and rugby and golf and any other less popular sport you can think of, but just one small article on V8s before a race if you're lucky.

Anyway, I've made sure that my social calender is totally empty on that weekend and have claimed prime position in front of the TV. Casey Stoner who is a big fan of the V8s will be at the track as an honored guest and has even been asked to be the head official on the day... a ceremonial position no doubt.

Go the Ford boys :D

Hi Guys,
I am heading up the mountain for tomorrow- Friday.
Have a mate racing in the development series, good luck.
Then sit in front of the big screen on Sunday with a few friends.

I agree, there is virtually no coverage for car racing in Australia,
you usually have to wait till Tuesday or Wednesday after the football before there is an coverage for Bathurst, lucky we have the internet.

Thanks,
Neil

There is almost a full page devoted to the race in today's Brisbane Courier mail.
Of course we did so badly in all codes of Football this year and E.I. has stopped horse racing in Qld so the Courier has nothing else to write about..

I'm putting my money on Lowndes and Whincup.

Plenty of coverage this side of the Tasman, but then thats only fitting since we probably have more drivers per Capita than the Aussies! Just to prove I am not totally biased-- GO LOWNDES & WHINCUP!!!
And just as a rank outsider & totally selfish reasons-TKR with Shane Van Gisbergen & John MacIntyre.

I saw Shane race at Oran Park, he's not a bad peddler, especially in the wet.

Well I am going to upset a few, I think Tander and R. Kelly have a good chance.
Not sure who is paired with Skaife, but if it is T. Kelly and they get past the first lap, actually the second corner, they have a great chance.

I think the results will depend on the driver parings and luck.

Single-slab beer limit set for motorsport fans

By James Phelps
October 05, 2007 04:00am

Article from: </IMG>

RACEGOERS were last night venting their fury at a controversial "one case" of alcohol limit at the Bathurst 1000 as police began an unprecedented security operation ahead of the famous race.

Motorsport fans have been outraged over the police crackdown on "hooligans" and have labelled the large-scale security campaign as "overkill".
The town has been transformed into a police state ahead of Sunday's race, with more than 750 armed officers - twice last year's total - converging on the historic rural town.
Police have set up checkpoints around Mount Panorama and are permitting only one standard case of alcohol (24 cans) per adult to be taken into the grounds.
Police are also subjecting fans to sniffer dog checks and body searches.
Victorian resident Wayne Houston had beer confiscated yesterday at a checkpoint in front of the Max Cameron camping ground.
"One box of beer per adult for four days is ridiculous," Mr Houston said.
"All they want to do is spoil our fun. I have been coming here for 11 years and have never even seen a fight. I take my kids here and I wouldn't do that if it wasn't safe.
"We never have any problems and to let just one box of grog in will only start trouble. No one gets in here with out being subjected to a search. It is creating chaos," he said.
The highly trained riot squad was yesterday out in force as the water cannon used at APEC cast an ominous shadow over the mountain.
NSW Assistant Police Commissioner Garry Dobson yesterday announced a large quantity of beer and spirits had been seized along with 50 arrests in just 48 hours. With less than 20 people arrested at last year's event, Mr Dobson denied the drastic increase in police numbers was "overkill".
"There is a suggestion that it is overkill and that will be the assertion if nothing happens come Monday morning. But we have done our job if that is the case. We have certainly increased the size of the force to several hundred but it is consistent with any other sizeable event," he said.
"We have had checkpoints in place for the past couple of days and we have been searching vehicles and persons. We have seized alcohol and it can be collected at the end of the event."
But in a stern warning Mr Dobson admitted he had an APEC-type arsenal at his disposal.
"Our tactics, techniques and assets we used are all available to us. Whether it be the water cannon, the helicopter flying over head or anything else. When you see the water cannon driving up Pit Straight, we are planning on that not happening, but it will mean we have had to deploy it for some reason," he said.
V8 fan Shane Carn, 35, accused the "fun police" of ruining his annual pilgrimage to Australia's greatest motor racing event.
"It is just going to incite trouble. We can't even walk out of certain fences and the inconvenience will create a lot of anger," he said.

Crikey, that IS overkill at a motor race...

Is there a history of trouble at Bathhurst?

One would think there's been riots looking at that lot but it's happening over here too. At Royal Ascot this year, they nicked my Pimms!

Motors TV generally show it in it's entirety.... (Ch 413 SKY)

I believe they are doing the same this year, but with their propensity to munch smelly cheese and sip red wine all day - the scheduling might well be up the Swannee....

Quick Edit: Motors TV (SKY 413) Sunday, 1100 - 1900 complete race..

So, what are you gonna watch and what are you gonna record eh? :D
