Amazingly, the Besler plane was also capable of STOL using the engine in reverse.

Dang - I missed that... You're right.. 10 gallons of water to 400 miles.. That's some AWESOME mileage!

But something needs to burn as well.. Looks like oil...

Any of you guys played "Steambirds?" It's a freeware game, just google it. Based on an alternate reality set in the 40s where WWII was fought with steam powered planes. Not kidding. It's addictive.

Never heard of it but it sounds like fun!

That would be the [L]anding part only James, I cannot envisage the the takeoff being enhanced by turning the prop backwards..

I do like the idea though, but like Randy I need to get a life....
