I got sent this e mail and I am amazed at the sharpness of the photographs.


It takes a while to go through all the pictures but some are just too good to miss.


These pictures are from colour slides found at the Library of Congress. They are dated between 1939-1943. The pictures are so clear and the colour is so vibrant, it looks as though they were taken just yesterday.

Great photos Ian. It's a shame that we seem to be drifting towards accepting inferior recording of images as normal practice with many of the pictures posted by people on social media sites, or even TV news items, being of the very poor quality cell phone type. I'm not getting at Forum members. Most pictures posted in this site are good quality, thank goodness...

These are quite beautiful. I would say, though, that it is the color saturation and density that make them so pretty; they are not actually any sharper than modern images. I think the color saturation etc are due to the fact that they may have been made using period films like Kodachrome, which I believe is no longer made.
