Porsche 930 G/box serial No.s

Does anyone know the format for the Porsche 930 G/box serial No.s?
Do they follow the G50 format & do the No.s differentiate between the long & short bell housings?
Any info much appreciated as the 930 'box I have just purchased has either had some of the No.s erased or they have been rubbed away by grounding on the road surface.

I checked all of my literature, but I only have serial decoder info for G50 family. I am sorry, but I suspect the information is probably out there on the web if you do some clever sleuthing on google or ask.

I just posted the G50 & later breakdown in another thread.

For the earlier cars, the numbering was much shorter, and not very descriptive. The cutover was at the end of 1987, for 1988 models. So the first G50's in 1987 used the "old" numbering scheme.

The main identification is on the bottom of the transmission, in the middle, on a raised surface, which is sometimes scraped from bottoming out on the pavement.

Example, 73H 06841

7 is the transmission type
3 is the transmission version
H is the model year, H=1987, I was skipped, J=1988, K=1989

06841 is the serial number, starting from 1. Swiss version started at 20001.

That's it, there is no more information in the numbers.

Now, for the types & versions...

73 = G50.00
74 = G50.01

77 = 930.36 turbo 4-speed

Now, prior to 1982, the serial had 1 less digit, and the model year was a single digit. 1=1981.

778 = 930.34 1978 model
779 = 930.34 1979 model
770 = 930.34 1980 model (nice, huh?)
771 = 930.34 1981 model (time to fix this)
77C = 930.34 1982 model (is this an improvement?)
77D = 930.34 1983 model

I've just bought another 930 g/box, or at least that's what I understand it to be, but I can't make sense of the serial No.'s i.e year of mnfr etc. etc. Anyone shed some light on these serial No.'s?

930/34 00 134............Underside of g/box on raised surface.
930 301 301 OR..........Rear casing.
930 301 102 OR..........Side of g/box casing.
930.301.101.1R.1.78....Bell housing.
