hello people in my computer

hi, my name is glen and i'm from sussex, england. i haven't got a gt yet but i am going to look at a body one day next week:thumbsup:. i have a mk2 escort running a 2.0 zetec with gsxr tb's, emerald management, discs all round and fitted with an x-pack.
my other car is a mk2 cortina that i bought as a 4 door auto, it had a rusty n/s/r arch so i cut the car in half, unpicking all the spot welds from the chassis, bought an accident damaged 2 door shell, did the same and....voila!!! 2 door kooltina!!!
she is also running a zetec on throttle bodies.
the next stage with either of my cars is to start space-framing, but my favourite car has always been a mk2 gt40 so i thought, if i'm going to put all this effort into my cars.... why not put the effort into something i've always thought i'd never have and build a gt!!
ideally, i'd love a dead gt chassis witch is already registered that i could re-build, needless to say, i will be asking a lot of questions!!!(remember when you knew nothing?):embarassed:
ps..those intrested in the "locostgt40" thread, watch this space

Hi Glen,

Sadly I don't think this is an option for you. Any damaged GT40 replica will generally be re-shelled or be re-chassied. You'd be better off buying a chassis new and starting your build from scratch. I would guess that a "locost" Gt40 may be buildable for 15-20K if you're VERY careful and manage to source plenty of s/h parts from people upgrading.(which lots do)
best of luck,

Simon

cheers for the reply, the other alternative is to build my own chassis, i have a 1950's elva replica kit car in the garden, which has a twin wishbone front set up and an escort quick rack, spax coilovers etc, it is made out of box section so could be easily modified, just means it will be a track day car:sad:, sva seems a pain!!!
what i want is a gt shaped rear wheel car, looking like a sprint/hillclimb, 1 bucket seat, no carpets, lexan windows etc etc. doesn't have to be true to the original. i just want something that makes me grin when i drive it!!
i work in a bodyshop so have access to jigs etc to make welding chassis easier, and you won't see the chassis once the body is on:thumbsup:

it's just started snowing:santa2:

bigfoot, that site is great, although still out of my price range. although it has opened up a few ideas, (which is why i joined the site) cheers

i went to view a shell tuesday night:thumbsup: and hopefully picking it up sat. seen a few 302s that are affordable, going to run it on gsxr tb's (i have 8. 4 on escort and 4 on kooltina),use my emerald, but need help in selecting a box. i've been looking at audi boxes as they seem cheap, but most people advertise them by car model. so a list of what cars suitable boxes came in would really help:uneasy: i want to get it to move under it's own power within 2 yrs (to keep the enthusiasm going) then update as what becomes available!! don't want to go above £10k (not going for originality, just a nice car)!!
any help appreciated, cheers, glen

well, i picked up my body today:thumbsup:, found somewhere to store it. 2 of my mates offered to help with the chassis build. and sean "the saffinator"", our best painter, offered to paint it for nothing...just because he loves the shape!!
sourced 2 sets of headlights, with backing plates and watching a couple of gearboxes! (need more help here)
project "cheap gt" is go!!
as i said, it is not going to be a close to original replica, more of a "how it would have evolved if it was still in production" type track car.
but i still need help with gearbox options!! read loads on here. but it's all serial no's etc (but i will learn:stunned:)

:laugh:went to look at my boss's mates build!! he's been building it 23 yrs. it's beutiful!!!
came away full of enthusiasm!!!
