Air Conditioning on the Fritz

Took the car out today and the A/C compressor won't engage. I fear the compressor clutch may be out. With no compressor, it's difficult to get a pressure check or add freon. Fuses are all ok and fan is fine so it's getting power. Anyone have anything similar happen or have any suggestions?

You may have a leak in the system somewhere...

Hi, you can try jumping the low side pressure switch, if the clutch engages your low on freon hope this helps Bob

Thanks all, I did try jumping the low pressure switch to no avail. I also found a little bit of oil around the lower dryer fitting indicating a possible leak. The think has worked great for eight years so it may be time for a compressor. I'll need to see if it's getting voltage.

Hi

I believe the early CAV had similar switches as the GTD cars

A few of these have had the dash swith fail. Last one I heard with this problem was Tony Hunt - send him a PM through this forum - I bet he can even give you a source of and part number for the switch

Diagnosis: Bad A/C relay. Thanks to Johann and Tony Hunt for advice to find the problem. Looks like I just need a new 5 pin relay that mounts to the heater box.
