Looking at several used transaxles out of R8 cars, what should I look for as far as part numbers? Some are older (mid-oughts to early teens) but have lower miles. I've already found E-gears for fairly cheap that are likely right out, I understand they can be converted to manual but that's beyond my scope of how-to knowledge and associated cost of conversion.
Is it worth buying a used one and having it serviced and re-geared? 2k for gears seems to be what I've heard, so ~1,200 for shipping 3-ways (unless I can get it drop shipped to a service location), $1500 servicing charge barring no other problems, so I should look for about a $6-7k list price to come in under a new transaxle and the associated same costs of re-gearing and shipping. Seems like that would be a fair price for a used unit and taking into account the risk of a used unit and that further work may be needed. Any thoughts?
