Alternative R&P Gear for G50??

This may be a very retarded question, but I'll ask anyways.

Would it be possible to fit a ring & pinion from another manufacturer into a G50? I can think of a few things/issues.

- The pinion shaft will more than likely need to be machined to fit, but that shouldn't be too hard.

- Would the ring gear fit on a G50 differential. I believe there are both 7.5" and 9" gears for both the 7.5" and 9" differentials. Would it be a matter of the bolts lining up?

- Another possibility, use a completely different differential. You might have to machine the end plates to fit the output shafts. The custom half-shafts should not be a problem to build.

The reason I ask this is because, yes there is a taller R&P gear for the G50, but the cost is around $3,000. Just for a ring and pinion gear,, where you can pick them up for most other makes/models for a few hundred bucks.

I have a G50 back home, but I won't be able to tear into it until around Feb or so.

Just something to chew on, ,if so,, it would GREATLY increase the availability of ratios that could be used.
