My old man was telling me a while back he was one of the draftsmen who worked on the BRM engine. This is a very long time ago when he was a very young guy (he's 80+ now) fresh out of drafting school. He said the engine was so complex that one of the main problems with the project was simply being able to draw it up with proper drawings capturing the necessary detail for the physical mock up and casting and machine work. But, oh boy, does it ever sound good!
