F1 Manager's race--1971

Got this great link from a friend. It's a support race at Brands Hatch in 1971, where all the F-1 team managers of the day competed in identically prepared Ford Cortinas. Real doorhandle-to-doorhandle stuff with Colin Chapman, Frank Williams, Max Moseley, John Surtees, etc. and Jackie Stewart on the pit wall, cheering on his team manager. Thrilling finish too!

Apparently they had not yet invented color in England in 1971....

Mike, they are Ford Escort Mexico`s.
Escort mk1 (in product 12/67-12/74) bodyshell, HD-version, with Capri & Cortina 1600 GT Kent x-flow engine in it instead of original 1,1 or 1,3 Kent. Around 86 bhp from 1,6 GT.
Mexico? Name came when Kent-powered Escort won London -Mexico World-Cup rally -70, driven by Hannu Mikkola.
Owned one good road car in 90`s. Still missing it.

Nice, cheap and bit scary; just simple roll-over bar with single rear support. And lot of aggressive noise from side exhaust :)

Or perhaps, like Australia, they waited for a decent system instead of rushing into that rubbish NTSC (never the same colour / no true skin colour) system you settled for.
Two guys walked onto an American TV screen and the purple guy said to the green guy... ;p

Tim.

I first saw that episode of 100 Great Sporting Moments about 30 years ago and have looked for that race everywhere for years. And there it was, on blimmin' YouTube.

Brilliant stuff, thanks for the link.
