GT40's at Donington Historic festival

Hi all

I went to the Historic Festival at Donington today as I heard a few GT40's were racing. I have to say the racing was fantastic and the line up of cars Donington managed to attract was unbelievable. 4 GT40's including my personal favourite Linden green car from Gelscoe. Here are a few pictures I took. The rest will be on Flickr in the next few days

And really terrific race photos... what kind of equipment did you use to take them?

Just a Canon 7D with standard 18-135mm lens. I borrowed it from work and I've been playing around with the manual settings. Got very lucky with the lighting towards the end of the day for the GT40s it's just a shame I was stood behind a mesh fence otherwise they would have been better.

Hi Trevor,
If you are planning to be at the Club meeting at Silvermere next week, any chance you can bring the camera along?
Looks a beauty.

I am going to have to get a longer lens for my digital SLR. I am impressed by what you did, though- very nice panning and razor sharp. I should have such nice photos of my GT40... maybe someday I will.

Yeah the camera we have needs a longer lens as I missed out on a lot of shots because I just didn't have the zoom. Overall though pretty happy with the panning shots. I've got high res versions of all photos if anyone wants any

Afraid not Paul otherwise I would have brought it down with me. Trying to avoid going to too many events as I need to spend more time on my car.

One other thing I forgot to mention was that Donington was the first time I'd seen a GT40 in action. Crazy to think that I am building a car I've never seen racing. Anyway I certainly wasn't disappointed the 40's were awesome and sounded fabulous. Just can't wait to get my car finished now.

I notice in the photos that the sky is a very beautiful shade of blue, with nary a cloud in sight. And yet, this event was held in England.

Nice Photoshop work! ;)

Trev, You've got a very photographic eye. Some bloody nice shots mate and thanks for posting. Those Gelscoe cars are breathtaking IMHO. If any of you have never been to their web page...go. Its something to see how they put them together.

As for Mike Drew...well spotted sir. Nice weather in England is almost an oxy-moron. Having lived there for many many, years I will say the country completely changes when the sun shines. Its a stunning place to be in nice weather.

Weather has been that good of late that a hosepipe ban must be looming soon! In May!!
Bring on climate change....................................

Thanks Jimmy for the compliments. I also shot some video footage which I'll bung together tomorrow and make a short GT40 video.

Finally as for the Gelscoe cars I totally agree with you. Absolutely stunning bits of kit, I took a lot of pictures of the car for personal reference for building my own car which I am basing on the Linden green car pictured. When my numbers come in on the lottery a trip to Gelscoe would be first on my list :)
