I ate up a couple of distributor gears, both brass and steel. Here is what I discovered. When I flipped the distributor over I noticed the hex recess where the shaft that goes to the oil pump slides into the bottom of the distributor was machined off center. I bought a new distributor and it hasn’t failed for over 15 years. (still using a steel gear with a H roller cam)
