Importing Engines form US to UK. Actual cost?

A familiar story altho I didnt let my motor get that bad, however I am sure that if I had put another 500 miles up I would have lost the crank as the bearings were in a mess. The motor is fully balanced now with new damper, cam and valve gear and runs strong and smooth. Interesting that the guys at Real Steel said the same as you, if buying a crate, strip it and balance and rebuild before using it.

I would not write off buying a motor from the US, it could save you quite a bit of money, I am not familiar with US builders but there are reputable ones there, you just need to research them and get some feedback.
There is a forum member here who is building an RCR car and I saw his motor. a 7liter 600hp from Keith Craft which cost about $14k US with EFi. At current exchange rates that is less than £7k. Shipping should cost no more than $700 and duty and VAT on top you are still around the £9k sterling mark.
