"Civility is unlikely to return until it is condemned everywhere"
Damn, I wish I had said that. Well done. Brevity is, indeed the soul of wit. That is exactly what I was trying to point out. Hate speech is worthy of condemnation regardless of where it comes from. And people who promote hate speech are not heroes.
Slightly off topic, but only slightly: the Israelis had a lengthy public discussion of all this when their Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin, was assassinated. Their point was that the daily rhetoric had become so inflammatory that it had led to the murder of a head of state. We have not had that happen, thank God, but we did have the Arizona shootings and murders. We have become a culture where is is fashionable and expected to demonize your opposition for their political beliefs. Until we decide, as a group, to walk away from that kind of attitude and behavior, we are not going to be living in a civilized country.
Yes,
I agree. Veek made a good point, this is not just a conservative thing, both sides are guilty of this. Oberman, Maddow and the ones on the left are no better than Limbaugh, Beck or Breitbart.
None of them are "heros", none of them are "patriots" none of them are "great Americans". No matter what side there propaganda represents.
I condemn all of them!
Hmmm. Not really what I had in mind. What I meant was it would be good if we could start being civil to each other on this forum and debate things without the name calling. Already some of you have used my comment to take a swipe at Lonesome. Seems I am flogging a dead horse.:dead::dead::dead:
McCarthy, Limbaugh, Beck, and Breitbart, all men who have brought to light things the establishment media wouldn't touch.
Rather than address the accusations, destroy the man. It worked on McCarthy, but there are too many other resources than the newspapers/network news to get the whole picture now. Limbaugh, Beck, and Breitbart are thriving because they have a service millions of people value.
The newspapers/network news are dying, no change in tactics is going to save them. People have become too aware of the facts.
