LeMans winning MKIV

I was just reviewing some program info after the 2004 24 hours and was amazed to see that the winning average speed and total distance covered in 1967 (3252.269 miles @ 135.48 mph) has only been bettered 3 times thru 2003. Even the small block car of 1969 has only been bested 9 times thru 2003. No wonder the GT40 has such respect !!

Slower track now !!!

Hello,

You're right, it is now not as fast as it was in the 60's.

This year GT40s lapped about 50 sec more than in the glory past.

The Hunaudière have now 2 chicanes and many curves have been changed for safety.

I dicussed with Bob Bondurant who told me that the track was much more exiting and he had to "cancel" all the souvenirs he reminded of the old track !

Best regards

Enclosed a picture of Bondurant standing in front of his Cobra Daytona before the start.

I realize the track has changed but I still think that is one helluva statistic over a 35 year time frame!
