Libya - some of the people that British troops helped to free from Gadaffi.

If green, purple, pink, or white people desecrate graves, they are a step below. You are racist in your defense of people that are a step below because of their actions, if they were english or any other ethnicity you would be outraged.

Jeff, state your views in an average bar in the US, especially one frequented by Marines, and see if you get out alive!

Mark, are you "edumactaed"?

You condemn Jeff for guessing and then you guess!

Has anyone else noticed that Jeff loves using the term "darkies" and seems to be the only one on this forum who uses it?

Kind of like women who breed corgies because they can say "bitch" in polite circles. :~)

Has anyone noticed that Mr Fechter is the only one on this fourm who calls people "Natzi, Communist and Socialist"! He uses these terms often and interchangably with anyone he disagrees with.

Its apparent that he has no idea what they mean, but that does not stop him from using them!

Can you say HYPOCRITE?

Those people who desecrated the graves are fuelled by hate, their religion is one of hate and teaches them to hate. To somehow try and justify their disgusting action by comparing them to an alcohol fuelled soccer crowd is reprehensible.
Obviously Jeff you have never served in the defence of your country, anyone who has served would not condone the desecration of any war graves, including
Their enemies.

I never -- not once -- condoned or "justified" what those idiots in Libya did. That's a fantasy you, Mark and Keith have made up in your own head(s). I said, from the start, that both were wrong.

I simply said that all cultures were guilty of stupid violence, including Americans, Brits and Canadians. And gave an example of stupid British violence.

The issue here is we have thread after thread after thread of Romanians doing this evil, and Bulgarians doing that, and Muslims doing this. And any time it is pointed out that violence and stupidity are not the sole province of any one culture, race or country, and that in fact caucasian white males in teh US or the UK or Oceania can do the very same thing, 3-4 folks on this board simply can't handle this basic fact and fly into a twitter.

I love this though: "Those people who desecrated the graves are fueled by hate, their religion is one of hate and teaches them to hate."

Because it so very easily becomes this: "Those English hooligans who beat others to a pulp were fueled by hate (over football), their actions were driven by hate (of others for simply supporting a rival team) and they collectively all teach each other to hate."

See how that works?

Yes I do see how that works, but to me the video of the people desecrating the war graves was not mob violence but a calculated attack.
I cannot get my head around comparing the desecration of anyone's grave with soccer hooliganism.

Why does Ron Earp accept such stupidity from some of these crass fools such as young and craik and lonesome?
That is the subject of several (3) private emails to me. Personally, along with one Australian they no longer bother me and are totally ignored but there is something very suspicious about the relationships.
Have any of them done any time in the any of the services?
I doubt it. Are any of them being affected by immigration on such a large scale? I doubt it.
Maybe Ron Earp would like people like me to go away. I don't mind Ron, I can return my paperweight gt40 thing back to you and you can send me my lifetime membership money back.
Apparently your big mate young has gone too far and you've failed to reign him in.
Think seriously about it Ron. I've privately expressed my disappointment in the past and now I'm doing it in public.

David I commend you for still having words when they have completely failed me. This is not, regretfully a new thing. This started in November 2011 with the Oslo thread and has been going down hill ever since. The Paddock, whilst risque, was a friendly place where people often spouted opinions, experiences, some of which, on the face of it, were a bit daft to put it mildly.

But they are just that, opinions formed by a set of circumstances that govern peoples lives. It doesn't make them right or wrong, just different, and the result often is that the person is attacked, not the message.

I will vomit bone marrow if I ever see another graph (unless it's a dyno sheet) reproductions of national and international newspapers or Youtube political clips as a way of reinforcing an opinion.

I have always tried to put a humourous spin on things, but even that doesn't work anymore. I do not know what goes on in people's lives or what makes normally sane men launch patronising condescending smug and insulting remarks to people they have never met based on an 'opinion', and I do not wish to speculate.

I personally would not include Bob in this as he has never been rude to me personally, although he can be an 'agent provocateur' knowing that his input will get a response from certain quarters, nay, guaranteed, and off we go again.

This is all stupid. It's a happy hobby and for some a business. It's not a place to demonstrate vitriol for all those who don't think the same way from ivory towers with a restricted view.

I am sorry, but the graveyard scene was upsetting to me personally, but again, certain comments posted here appeared to try and justify such acts by balancing out the appalling behaviour displayed with a universally lamentable social problem of our time, and that, sirs, is unacceptable.

One act showed a social problem fueled by idiots and alcohol which took place some years ago, the other represented a recent attack on our culture, our religions and our descendants.

I have come across this concept of justification in Europe many times before, only here the heading usually falls under the general heading of Holocaust Deniers.

You two guys are too much. At the core, you are simply scared of beliefs different than yours, and don't want them expressed in what you considered "your" forum. Well, it's not. It's place were people from all over the world come to discuss GT40s in particular and cars in general. And the way that you, David Morton, and you Keith Hardy, discuss foreigners and immigrants and Muslims would turn off and offend a significant number of folks from places other than the UK or the US.

Ron and I have been friends for a long time but that would not stop him - trust me - from moderating this forum the way he would want to moderate it.

You are absolutely right, Keith Hardy, that this is a place to express opinions, and that is in fact all that we are doing here. But the fact that someone's opinion disagrees with yours, or Mr. Morton's, or because it comes from someone "not directly affected by immigration" (that one was so laughable I don't even know where to start, given the fact that I live in a country that is essentially ALL immigrants), doesn't mean that expressing that opinion is "vitriol" from someone in an "ivory tower." It just means someone disagrees with you.

This isn't your private party shack Mr. Morton, and Mr. Hardy. It's an international car forum. If you want to slag Muslims and immigrants and say "innit" in a derogatory fashion without someone pointing out that doing so is wrongheaded, head down to your pub with your friends and do it there.

That's a fair question. It could be argued that beating other people senseless over football rivalries is in fact more "wrong" than kicking over an inanimate object. That said, I understand the historical and honorary significance attached to war graves and yes, what the Libyans were doing offended me greatly.

Unfortunately, in this place (the Paddock), it is necessary to continuously remind a small group of folks that it isn't only just Muslims and immigrants who engage in silly group (or otherwise) violence. The football hooliganism was a good example of that.

No this is not our Private Shack. We do not slag Muslims & Immigrants unless they attack the fabric of our society and even then such critique is fairly mild. "Innit" is a word jokingly used by everybody in the UK. It's an urban word in general use in newspapers, advertising, TV programs and the People. It is not considered a derogatory term.

In expressing our views we are perhaps revealing that which we fear in our society and that may be something everybody can learn from where ever you are domiciled. You have your very own fear set in the United States and that has been shown by recent pointless vitriolic political 'discussions' I cannot begin to understand that process, so I will not comment on it any longer.

We are not generally bigots or racist (you will find them everywhere) but we will defend ourselves and we live a lot closer to the problem than you do plus we are historically connected and therefore engaged even if we do not want to be. The United Kingdom and it's people has a long history with cultural and race diversities and are basically respectful of others beliefs otherwise we would not be able to live cheek by jowl in a country which would fit 2 times into California with millions of immigrants as neighbours.

What you did was a disgraceful attempt to wind people up and in this you are absolutely on the same page as Bob Fechter. You people do not post your opinions on anything - you sit back and attack others, and decry their efforts at any explanation.

This is not your court room Young and you do not have the right to such disgraceful exhibitions of crass and insulting cultural ignorance.

I am not speaking for anyone else - this is MY opinion so do not categorise me.

By the way, there are many things we discuss at my local pub, when health permits - women, music, art in no particular order whilst some (but not me) discuss motor cars. My best buddy is a Member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and is a devout liberal, an extraordinary humanist and I like him.

The things we NEVER discuss are Politics, Religion, Race, and that's probably true of most pubs that do not connect with Redneck philosophy.

Thank you for your response - it was expected. During the time you have been a member you have exhibited no sense of humility whatever and you have obviously decided to 're-educate' us poor old-worlders as we do not share your obvious 'progressive enlightenment'. You are an educated man Young but without any sense of empathy - and in my mind that indicates something far more sinister than any feeble opinion I have ever uttered.

You were wrong, your are wrong and you are still an absolute disgrace sir and will remain so to me until you apologise for your own brand of desecration.

No it isn't and we know that. If you call the desecration of war graves silly and do not see it for what it really represents then I fear for your safety.

Fellows,

The paddock is not moderated. Says so on the rules somewhere. It also says to use your own name, which I think for the most part you folks are doing, and it is written to be nice to once another, which in light of the fact you're disagreeing with each other you all are mostly are living up to.

Nowhere on the forum does it say you won't read an opinion that is different from your own. If you choose to be offended by that fact, then so be it, but it isn't for the moderators here to decide who's opinion gets deleted or censored.

The Paddock is a read at your own risk area. Don't post something controversial and be surprised when it stirs up controversy. I choose not to read in the paddock, nor have the paddock indexed in my Today's Posts, so I generally don't know what is going on down here. But compared to a lot of forums, you guys are keeping it reasonably civil.

No David, I don't want you, Keith, or anyone else to leave the forum. But if you were to choose to do so that is your own decision and that decision to do so does not rest with the forum.

And last, I don't "reign in" people on the forum who are expressing their own view points in the paddock. That Jeff and I are friends has nothing to do with it at all. If Jeff changes his avatar to a lewd photo, spouts off misinformation in the technical areas, lies in the feedback forums, posts porn in the Paddock - he'll receive the same treatment as any of us, he'll find his posting privileges revoked. But if he posts opinions and viewpoints, even if they're contrary to yours, and then you do the same, well there is no action to be taken since this is The Paddock and a place for non-GT40/car discussion.

Ron

PS-Jeff and I often disagree on issues. Take the video that was posted of those jokers kicking over head stones; me, I'd have no problem locking those fellows up, beating them around the head a bit, maybe even one or two of them would disappear. Jeff wouldn't agree with me, but we're still friends and I understand Jeff's view point and respect it, even agree with it too - all societies on the planet engage or have engaged in this sort of disrespectful, racial, religious, hate-driven behavior; US Marines pissing on dead enemies, collecting souvenirs, and all sorts of stuff - it just isn't limited to a certain race or society.
