New Rear Uprights

Hi Guys,

A while back we posted pics of the prototype rear upright. Since then more grey matter and green backs have gone into the design, tooling and production of the part. The results are pictured below.

First of all, the New Rear Upright is designed for the early (up to s/n100 ) cars equipped with the original CAV multi peice upright. Autofutura has replaced this upright with an aluminum one peice unit supplied on all later cars. Something had to be done about the bolt on lower control arm mount/toe adjuster part.

The new upright provides a much stronger part with dimensional and geometric advantages over the OEM part. The jig is configurable to accomodate different track widths or wheel back spacing. The brake caliper bracket ears can be fitted to mount the standard PBR calipers (as shown) or changed, during manufacture to accomodate Willwood, Brembo or AP brakes.

The new upright is backwards compatable with all "series 100" cars with either stock suspension arms or our Revised Lower A-Arms.

You'll notice in the pics we've moved the bottom of the upright down. This was done to raise the instantaneous roll centre height. This improves rear roll resistance without using a stiffer sway bar or reducing ride quality. It reduces the rate of camber climb in bump too, another good thing. Control of the rear contact patch should also improve on bumpy surfaces.

The other biggest benift to lowering the attachment point of the lower control arm is an increase in available spring travel of about 1.5", depending on ride height and tire diameter. This means you can get your CAV down and not be on the snubbers inside the shock.

The New Rear Upright shown is a wide track version. This allows you to fill the Gulf wheels arches with the stock 15x10 BRMs or the new 17x10 BRMs from Bob at Vintage Wheels. The wide track version comes with Inner CV Joint Spacers and Long Upper Lateral Links so it's still a bolt in part.

It's particularily handy to have original parts on hand when designing new parts. You can see the progression from early CAV to the original Ford GT40 cast magnesium part through the New Rear Upright. The mag part is a work of art by the way and super light at 5.5lbs. Our all steel fabricated CNC upright weighs in at 10lbs - the same as the cast aluminum CAV part!

We have the CNC hub carriers in stock and tig weld up the part to your specs: standard or widetrack, PBR or other brakes etc. so give me a call.

This is a must have part especially if you plan to do any lapping or are hauling around big horses or rubber. There is a core credit for your old parts to help offest the cost.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

As I mentioned above, these parts are intended for pre 100 s/n cars with components made by the old CAV - Cape Advanced Vehicles. Autofutura has done an excellent job of evolving the CAV GTs they've built since taking over production.

The parts could also be used on a scratch built chassis or to upgrade parts on older kits. Does any of this look like they would fit GTDs for example?

Please feel free to call the 866 tech line with any questions, it's a free call across North America.

Cheers
