Newbie from Arkansas

Hi all,

My name is a TJ Fowler and I just joined. I am a long time "car-guy" and currently work as an attorney in Little Rock, Arkansas.

I have been in love with GT40s since I first sat in one when I was 16 years old. The car was actually a pre-production prototype from Ford and had a 289 motor. The cars owner let me pull it out of the bay so I could check it out in the sunlight. From the moment that v8 roared to lofe behind my head, I was hooked. :D

I spent my high-school years working at a local speed shop and saw a couple other GT40s and Panteras come through while I worked there. I love cars of all types, but something about a mid engine sports car with a big Ford V8 just stands head and shoulders over all others IMO. At age 18, I swore to myself (and to the owner of the speed shop) that I would own a Pantera before I turned 30.

Im 28 years old now... two years to go. I have since amended my promise from "Pantera" to "Superformance GT40." Hence, my new membership to this site. My goal is to own a Superformance MkI Heritage car in the next couple years, and Im saving my pennies to may my childhood dream a reality.

I know a bit about cars, but this is my first foray into the world of GT40 ownership. Needless to say, Im going to need alot of guidance. I look forward to learning from everyone on this board. Thanks in advance!

Welcome TJ WOW a Superformance GT nothing like aiming high, You will defenitly have to save your pennies but what a car.

Nice to E-meet you. I didnt know there were any other SPF GT40s (aside from Mike's) in the area.

I do know Mike. He is a really nice guy and has been adding fuel to my car addiction ever since I was a kid (even if he doesnt know it). I first met him when I was about 16. I was working at the speed shop and we were helping him build a motor for one of his Panteras. He drove up in a Renualt R5, and I thought it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen up to the point in my life.

When my dream gets a little closer to reality, I would love to buy both of you lunch and pick your brains on the replica GT40 purchasing/ownership experience.

Feel free to pick up an SPF GT40 for me today if you feel the need. Just know that the financing terms would have to be REALLY liberal right now. :D

Welcome TJ.....you're gonna love this bunch. We feel your pain (desire) and theres only one cure. Turn the fuel pump on, stick in the key, apply a couple of quick blips to the fun pedal, turn the key and WAM! Once your eyes roll back to the front you're ready to go. Good Luck and keep us posted.

TJ if you were with me today at Olthoff racing you would have to change your shirt from the drool, as usual he and his guys spent way to much time with me showing me all the new items he is putting on the 40s. I picked up a set of the door openers like the originals had. He had in the works a MK2 with a 427 FE motor, a blood red Mk1, and a Gulf GT40R. If I had the extra cash I would be driving home a MKIII decked out with a 427 he has for sale for $50k. It would be nice to have all of them, MK1, MK2, MK3 and the Daytona couple. Also he had a Winston cup motor on the stand, it was almost to beautiful to put in the a car.

As for Mikes R5, he also hooked me on them, I have had one for many years. Pocket Rocket.

Dang it TJ, now you know where I've been hiding out when not posting on the LRRS. Welcome aboard! This board has wonderfully open minded members with a great sense of humor and craftsmanship that have provided information and inspiration for my current project.

TJ,

Somehow, although I don't live in Arkansas, I've luckily gotten to know Mike and Jack. We traveled together to the Road America reunion last July and had a great time.
Well, I did anyway....

You're in good hands with those guys.

We keep talking about how I live too far away in Texas (near Houston), but we still do a lot and talk a lot!

Welcome to the gang!

Kirby

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Terry, its good to find out where you have been hiding. If you need a hand one weekend on the Mirage, let me know. Id love he opportunity to help out and learn from you--just know that my fabrication skills are limited to basic wrench/bolt duty :embarassed:.

Jack, our taste in autos runs parallel... you sound like my kind of car guy. :D

Kirby, you ought to move to Arkansas. Then you wont have to be a Texan (just kidding, of course). ;)

TJ:

Where have you been? You know where I'm at and the Mark II is ready for inspection.

Lawyer? Yikes. Just kidding. Leonard mentioned you the other day.

Hey Mike. I would love to see the car.

Say when, and I will bring beer/lunch/any payment necessary (as well as a towel to clean up my inevitable drool). Also, if you ever need a hand working on the car, I would be grateful for the chance to help and learn about GT40s in the process.

Yeah, as it turns out, I like to argue. It was either keep working with Leonard and argue with Will all day, or go to law school. I chose the latter.

I took a job with the Friday Firm about a year ago and have really been enjoying it. Hopefully it will fund this sick obsession I have for GT40s (I still have a long way to go).
