Hi Marcus,

About the Gulf Colors, without bias, I can say the CAV paint codes listed on page 37 of the PDF posted above look right on the car.

The original colors were said to be Triumph (BMC) Powder Blue and Merigold Orange. Regardless the CAV codes will be as close as anything.

The thin stripe between the blue and orange is actually blue not black, a blue/black. The darkest blue we could find was a Mercedes color.

The "powder blue" requires a white basecoat if you want it to really pop. You will need more coats of blue and not achieve the same impact if applied over grey primer. Try it on a blowout card first, you'll be surprised. Even though it's a solid gloss color it needs the light basecoat.

Cheers
Ian

After taking over the Ford GT40 race team, Gulf Oil had the GT40 modified with a new roofline and body, and finished in the Gulf Powder Blue (P030-8013) and Marigold (P030-3393) exterior paint combination

Powder Blue PO30-8013
Marigold PO30-3393

"an original Production Car Record Sheet shows the Light Blue code to be (P030-8013) and the Marigold (P030-3393) both being British Leyland (Triumph) colours"

"here it is for the gulf colors(the originals):

Berger Ref 1125 Standard Triumph Powder blue
Berger Ref 1465 Triumph Marigold

Ps: I was told that the dark stripe between the orange and blue should be dark blue."
045 RENAULT ORANGE
051 TRIUMPH POWDER BLUE
I have also been told the following are the same :-
Berger paints No 1125 standard triumph powder blue ICI no. 8013.
No 1456 triumph marigold ICI no 3393.

Powder blue (PPG 12163)
Topaz (orange) (PPG 60812)
Royal Blue for thin stripe between orange stripe and powder blue (PPG 13126)

Do not worry at all the Pale / Powder blue PO30-8013 and Marigold PO30-3393 are not the true Gulf colours but ones of the Wiltshire Oil Company (that Gulf acquired). So all you have to do is to say your car is not in Gulf colours but Wiltshire Oil colours!!!

Just do a little search on here and you’ll find alot of great detailed info on what you’re after. Here’s a beginning, very similar to Triumph’s Powder blue, marigold orange, I think stripe is royal blue approx 3/8-1/2in wide.

I do not know if this helps as I only have reference for I think the original paint code.
Someone should know the modern equivalents.

Powder Blue PO30-8013
Marigold PO30-3393

"an original Production Car Record Sheet shows the Light Blue code to be (P030-8013) and the Marigold (P030-3393) both being British Leyland (Triumph) colours"

"here it is for the gulf colors(the originals):

Berger Ref 1125 Standard Triumph Powder blue
Berger Ref 1465 Triumph Marigold

As far as I can find out, the JW Automotive colours were:
Berger Ref: 1125 - Standard Triumph Powder Blue.
Berger Ref: 1456 - Marigold.

Cheers
Mike
