RCR40 Shifter w/ZF 5DS-25-2

I'm have a little trouble understanding exactly how this shifter works. Namely how to get it in reverse gear. I was assuming that, because the shifter shaft seems to be spring loaded, it would need to be pushed down and then pulled back so that the pin on the shaft would clear the boss on the shifter housing(see pics attached). However, that doesn't appear to be the case with mine because the shaft isn't able to be pushed down. When adjusted, I either have 1st through 5th gear with no reverse, or I can re-adjust the cable at the ZF and get reverse along with 1st through 3rd, but no 4th or 5th. Hoping to find help from someone who has a functioning one of these in their car.
TIA, Rod

Something I hacked together from some stuff we had laying around, it’s pretty smooth shifting, looks like on yours it just needs a little fine tuning
Not sure why the first picture is on its side and the last one is upside down

Terry,
Thanks for the reply. That's a really nice looking bit of kit that you hacked together from some stuff you had laying around. Wish I had the talent & resources to do things like that.
As it happens, I did resolve the issue with my shifter. The aftermarket shift knob was keeping the shaft from it's up/down movement. Put on the RCR supplied knob and it all works now as intended.
Regards, Rod
