Really, seriously?

While Redskins was originally a derogatory term for Indians, I don't believe that in 1932 when the franchise was named it was picked for that reason. I think it was picked because it represented a strong people, like their logo, as does Blackhawk, Kiowa, etc. Just another example of PC running amuck.

Not really, but not sure it matters. People perceive it differently now, just like we no longer use the word "nigger" in conversation.

I don't get worked up about this either way. It seems kind of silly for people to be offended by it, but it seems just as silly for people in Arizona to give two shits about the federal government thinks about a sports team's name, especially when there is an at least reasonable basis for the government saying it doesn't think using teh word Redskin is a good idea, but Blackhawk is ok.

Just as silly as people anywhere else in the US. PC for the most part is ridiculous. Never did use the "N" word in conversation.

Actually PC started off as a simple attempt to be polite to others. Makes sense to me. Did folks take it too far? Sure.

Is the backlash against PC nearly as stupid? Yes. "Mah rats to be a racist bigoted asshole are being violated, I do declah!"

There's a line in the middle somewhere, where adults don't talk like jerks and thus "PC" isn't needed. We aren't there yet.

You didn't read the attachment, it wasn't meant as a slur. Why would you pick a derogatory symbol to represent a football team you are building? Makes absolutely no sense.

No, it wasn't. Only in right wing fantasy land.

In the early-to-mid 20th century, contemporary uses of the phrase "Politically Correct" were associated with the dogmatic application of Stalinist doctrine, debated between formal Communists (members of the Communist Party) and Socialists. The phrase was a colloquialism referring to the Communist party line, which provided for "correct" positions on many matters of politics. According to American educator Herbert Kohl, writing about debates in New York in the late 1940s and early 1950s,

The use of that term in the Communist Party is completely different from its use in American society, which was originally founded on respect for other cultures and politeness

Is there any right wing myth you DON'T believe in hook line and sinker?
