Del, Howard, totally agree with you on this topic. To me, Montana is a last resort. NJ lays out the safety requirements very clearly, it’s the emissions requirement gets a little gray for post 1969 engines. The inspector in NJ is very very helpful, it’s just clear if you have a pre1970 block you don’t have to pass emissions, everything else needs to pass emissions for the year the engine represents. A little vague, but I have an approach that the inspector and I believe will work(crate motor, factory ECM with factory flash, and custom harness with all emissions components wired in) and my build will be emissions compliant. So once I get to the go cart stage I’ll check all the ODB2 Rediness flags and Mil light, assuming it allI works I should be in good shape to get my car registered in NJ.
