Ryan Ellis 2012 Grand Am signs with BMW Insight racing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dec 1, 2011

Orlando, FL: Officials announced today that 2011 Grand AM ST Rookie of the Year, Ryan Ellis, will be driving for Insight Racing of Columbus, Ohio in the 2012 Grand AM Continential Tire Sports Car Championship, Street Tuner series. Ellis, who finished 2011 in 3rd place in the Grand AM Continential Tire ST Driver's Championship battle, will co-drive Insight's new #18 BMW 128i with returning Californian Tyler McQuarrie.

Ellis burst onto the Grand AM scene last January at Daytona, where he was fast qualifier, broke the track record and led every lap on the way to a dominant win in his full-time debut in the series. "2011 was an amazing year, but 2012 could be even bigger", commented Ellis. "Gilbert Lynagh, (Insight's Principal), told us at our first meeting that his goal is nothing short of the 2012 Grand AM Continential Tire Challenge ST championship. He's committed the resources to make that happen. That's our goal too, and that's why we are here."

Insight will campaign one car in both the ST and GS classes of the Grand-AM Continential Tire Sports Car Challenge. Their 2012 season begins in late January at Daytona International Speedway, ends in September at Lime Rock Park, includes a new Grand AM event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, for a total of 10 events nation-wide.

In addition to his Grand AM duties with Insight Racing, Ryan, 22, will be returning in 2012 as the driver of Race Car Replicas/Team Superlite Cars' factory race team. Ellis won the NASA Super Unlimited National Championship for the team in 2011.

Currently a junior at George Mason University, (GMU), Ryan is a professional racing instructor and a host on CBS/WJFK's weekly “In the Pits” radio talk show.
