Safety Switch On Petrol Pumps.

Pete - yes, I have the Autronic SMC & it does cut the power to the pump relay when the engine stops. I was going to leave it at that until this thread started & I got to thinking about the possibility of a prang where the car pops out of gear & sits there with the engine running & the odd ruptured fuel line ! I saw it happen once on the road years ago - fortunately, the driver scrambled out & after a few moments for recovery, said "Sh*t, the engine is revving its bloody head off, I better go & stop it". Just as he took the first step towards the car, "WHOOSH" up it went !

This thread jogged my memory of that, so I think I'll put the inertia switch in !

Kind Regards,

Peter,

That brings up one of the few bad points of EFI vs. carb.

An EFI engine will run upside down for a lot longer than a

carbed one! I recently saw an upside down Jetta, whose

engine ran for 10 minutes in it's inverted position. The

smoke pouring from the car had the firemen on the scene

scared to go near it! Imagine that!

Add the switch!

Consider this...Since your wallet has been so severely

crippled of late, the switch may qualify your car for an

insurance discount! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice thought Bill - the insurance guys in the US must be a soft touch !

Here in Oz, the bastards would probably impose a surcharge for having to even think about the switch !

I'll put the switch in, but not mention it to the insurance idiots.
