| Goodyear vs. Avon Hello,
I know this subject has discussed several times, but I have a specific question. I'm putting 15" wheels on my SPF Gulf GT40. I really like the large lettering on the Goodyear and Avon tires. I think it gives the car an old vintage racer look.
Question is... which tire is better for 70% street and 30% track? Which one would pick up less rocks on the street? Attached is a photo of the Goodyears and Avon's I'm thinking of getting.

| Re: Goodyear vs. Avon Hi Randy, possible to be precise about exactly which Avon or Goodear you're interested in? I'm guessing the Avons you're thinking about are the CR6ZZ's based upon the tread pattern and likely sizing. |

| Re: Goodyear vs. Avon I ran the GY Billboard tires from Roger Kraus on my cobra and they pick up rocks like crazy. I had aluminum spats on the car and they got pretty beat up.

[/IMG] | And that is a KEY POINT I have been trying to get people to understand for years now... You run racetires on the street - kiss your nice paintjob goodbye.. You also pick up a lot of star cracks in the paint job above the tires.

| Re: Goodyear vs. Avon The answer is 2 sets of wheels/tires. You can get a used set of either Goodyears or Avons free by looking behind the tire trailer at any vintage race meet. The used tires have plenty of tread left on them (if you could call it tread) but they are no longer sticky
enough to race on. You could use these tires for display or limited street use but they do not drive so good as the radials you are used to. You can get good used tires for track use if you are a beginner. If you are racing, you want new tires. If you are looking for a tire that does not pick up rocks and is good for the street or track and has big letters, it does not exist really. What makes it good for one use is the same thing that makesw it bad for another use.
The Dunlop race tires drive the best on the street and perhaps you could stencil Goodyear on them. |

| Re: Goodyear vs. Avon See the tirelist onby,
It definitely depends on what you mean with " works on the track". I have heard good things about the AVON CR6zz. The Pirellis would also do a decent job. But thats it IMHO.
Judging by your AVATAR you should have a lot of 15" experience

They look like a nice option.

If you check the chart you could check for the tires which are in "measuring rim" size up to 11", because this rim are usually representing the optimal rime size from which you can diviade + - 1 - 1,5" .
I filtered the chart accordingly and came up with this selection. | Brand | Type | OFFICIAL SIZE | Dia wheel | Width | Ratio | Tire Height | TOTAL DIA | TOTAL DIA in mm | Threadwith | Sectionwidth | Measuring Rim | Max RIM | Speedrating | RADIAL | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | MICHELIN | TB5R | 285/40-15 | 15 | 285 | 40 | 4,5 | 24,0 | 610,0 | 11,5 | | 10 | 12 | ZR | | | MICHELIN | TB5R | 270/45-15 | 15 | 270 | 45 | 4,7 | 24,4 | 619,0 | 10,9 | | 9 | 10,5 | ZR | | | HOOSIER | R6 | 275/50-15 | 15 | 275 | 50 | 5,3 | 25,5 | 647,7 | 10,0 | 10,8 | 8 | 9,5 | RACETIRE | x | | GOODYEAR | BLUE STREAK | 26,5 x10.0-15 ( cobra) | 15 | | | 5,8 | 26,5 | 673,1 | 10,2 | 12,9 | 10 | 10,5 | RACETIRE | | | AVON | Cr6ZZ | 295/50-15 | 15 | 295 | 50 | 5,8 | 26,6 | 675,6 | 9,9 | 12,2 | 9 | 10 | VR | | | HANKOOK | RH 06 | 295/50-15 | 15 | 295 | 50 | 5,8 | 26,6 | 675,6 | 9,8 | 12,4 | 9,5 | | VR | x | | GOODYEAR | BLUE STREAK | 8,00-15(G7) | 15 | | | 5,9 | 26,8 | 680,7 | 10,3 | 13,2 | 10 | 11,5 | RACETIRE | | | NITTO | NT 555 R | 325/50-R15 | 15 | | | 6,5 | 27,9 | 708,7 | ?? | 13,1 | ?? | 11,5 | VR | | | BF GOODRICH | G Force Drag radial T/A | 325/50-R15 | 15 | | | 6,5 | 27,9 | 708,7 | | 13 | 10 | 12 | ?? | x |
to be sure go for the rim recos of the tire specification.
Also a thing to check is clearance through the whole suspension travel. Especially the wide and big diameter tires like the last three in this list could create some issues on this topic.
