Speedhut makes a GPS speedo that is really neat. It is independent of gear ratios, tires etc. They have a GT-40 package of gauges on sale @ 10% off.

Buuuuuut if you need a GPS solution and you don't want to use a different gauge set (such as the position i found myself in a few years ago), then there's this guy - converts GPS data into pulses per mile for any speedo (e.g., autometer)
I have all speedhut gauges and they are outstanding. I was wondering if anyone who has the new GPS unit can tell me how long it takes to gather satellite data before it starts working?
I put their speedometer in last fall. It takes less than a minute (maybe 30 seconds) to find the satellite. I pull out of the garage to warm up so it's never a problem. It's flat here, so I can't help with the mountain question.
