Rep Power: 3 | pics of 1062 rebuild Enclosed are a few pics from 1062 being rebuilt after the Le Mans Classic fire.
A leaking fuel cell under braking for the first Hunaudieres chicane at some 175 mph, caused the fuel to fly out of the sillon to the front brake, ignited and flashed inside.
Fortunately the extinghuiser worked.....
Only the fuel burned and some of the paint, nothing else, but we decided to do a full rebuild anyway. |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: pics of 1062 rebuild I noticed that the taper at the end of the sill is missing, this needs to be part of the sill before it is fitted to the car, that is why the profile doesn't seem fit the lower wheel arch closing panel and the same will occur at the rear, interested to see how it was rectified, any more pictures?

Rep Power: 3 | Re: pics of 1062 rebuild Roy,thanks for the tip.
I don't know hoe that's been done,I am going to check.
Some more pics of the rust we found after acid-dipping the monocoque.
You can see GT40's were never built to last this long.
It also shows the risk of not restoring an original car. |

Rep Power: 3 | Re: pics of 1062 rebuild 1062 had it's first tracktest today at Donington after the almost 2 year rebuild.
We had some problems in the beginning but once that was sorted we worked on the set-up; first in the wet and then most of the track dried out.
After having played with the shocks and roll bar we got it close to where it has to be.
Maybe we need to lower the front a bit; it had good turn-in and it was easy to slide neutrally on 4 wheels.
Great to have it back and ready for racing! |

Rep Power: 11 | Re: pics of 1062 rebuild HHH, is the rear body section from an early car? I ask because I thought the dual tail lights ended around chassis P1036 or so. Terrific work on the restoration.

Rep Power: 3 | Re: pics of 1062 rebuild Mark,
These are the lights that have always been on there. We transferred them from the original rearbody which was like 50 kg's......
We hade a new thin fibreglass rearbody made to the same form as the original. |
