Australia and New Zealand propose a carbon tax on Farm Animals.

Another title for this thread should also be "The World is going bonkers".
I declare I have an interest in agriculture and am a breeder of Thoroughbred race horses.
Below is a press release which spells it out.
Our Governments are looking at every possible means to raise tax and the so called carbon tax is just another con.

For Immediate Release. 30 June 2008

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
P>
“This simple process is surely not beyond the understanding of all the lobbyists, bureaucrats, researchers and media living off farmers
Australia and New Zealand lead the world in harvesting solar energy and carbon dioxide to produce an abundance of clean green food. Why then are both the New Zealand and the Australian governments proposing to force farm animals into their emissions trading quagmire? And why are they subsidising the conversion of farmland producing food into forests producing nothing but carbon credits or crops producing ethanol motor fuel? What are future generations going to eat?”

Forbes claimed that farmers need to start agitating now or they risk being the only bunnies still paying carbon taxes.

“Motorists who vote and use petrol will escape the carbon tax by sleight of hand – petrol excise will in future be called “carbon tax”. Exporters will get an exemption to enable them to compete with more sensible regimes with no carbon taxes. Other protected species like working families in marginal electorates will get subsidies to cover carbon taxes on electricity bills. Truckies will blockade the roads if politicians add carbon tax to diesel prices. That leaves farmers as the only big group with so few votes and such incompetent leadership that they will pay the carbon tax.”

“Farmers have been abandoned by Ag Force, the Meat and Livestock Authority, CSIRO, the National Party, our “working families” Government and most of the similar organisations in New Zealand. It is not clear whether this is because of a lack of scientific logic or cowardice in the face of electoral hysteria on global warming.”

“But the politicians representing the treasured “working families” in the battling suburbs had better start taking notice of rising food prices or a more soundly based hysteria about the growing shortage of food will sweep emissions trading nonsense from the political landscape.”

Easier and more profitable than putting a speed camera on every farm I guess.

Yes indeed, the world is bonkers...

A few days ago I watched a segment of a TV show that was banging on about environmentally sustainable gardening.
To make the garden more "environmentally sustainable" they destroyed a perfectly good retaining wall, sent the refuse away for "recycling" and then replaced the wall with "sustainable" wood.
To me the ultimate form of recycling would have been to continue to use the wall as it was, let alone leaving a perfectly happy tree alone.

Always riding the wave with very little science or thought, that's the problem with politics and media.

Good luck with it Pete.

Dave,

That's essentially what it is and the methane is the reason for it. Here it's commonly termed a Fart Tax

You can get an exemption if you capture your farts in a jar, then feed them into a "natural gas" compressor and use them to fuel your CNG GT40.

Now that's thinking outside the box!

Allegedly here in the UK there has been developed a new breed of grass that reduces cattle emissions by at least 50%. Snag is it cannot be marketed as it is Genetically Modified. Another grass developed which I would like to have is one where when the grass dies it stays green. But alas, also GM.

Now if I could put an emissions tax on certain members of my family I would have a fantastic racing budget......

Russ,
They will Tax you for producing the gas and Freewheel they(Gov) will tax you when you burn it. The way things are going the steam engine may make a comeback.
Dave

Gentlemen;
Don't feel left out. There is a bill currently in congress here in the us to cap carbon emmissions, and tax them.
This bill would put energy costs thru the roof, and additionally tax everyone that used any form of fossil fuel. The liberals here are working overtime to get this thru, and it would put a limit on a persons total carbon emissions, including vehicles, home heating, mowing the lawn etc.
I can just see the winter bringing the choice of whether to drive to your job or heat your house, not that you could afford either anyway.
Of course you will be able to buy additional credits at a highly inflated price from someone else.
Of course our good friends at the top won't really be affected by all this.
Cheers (Maybe)

Phil

Phil,
Maybe those folks living in the Ozarks had the right way of life. Run the still, what you don't sell or drink use to power your vehicle. Of course those revinuer's have satelites now.

OH LORD!! Watch out, next the US will try to adopt that crap. Wow, they're taxing you guys for your animals farting, are they going to tax YOU for farting? Are you going to have to pay $50 a year to pass gas? WOW, just WOW. Our governments are friggin retarted...

Pretty much what Phil mentioned is the case here. Taxing all emissions from carbon/fossil fuels is the proposal. Which means everything will go up in price.
About the only innovative thinking socialist Governments have is ways to impose taxes.
What is ludicrous about this new impost is that it taxes one of the building blocks of life. Without carbon/carbon dioxide, none of us would exist.
It is very populist to blame Global warming and climate change on carbon emissions, but IMHO there is no scientific evidence to prove that they are the cause. That of course does not stop the pigs going to the trough of revenue raising.

You have all missed the Penis tax, this will be charged on a per inch basis
1"-3" deserve a rebate
3"-6" will have the average median tax rate applied
6"-8" will have a luxury tax of 25% applied to the median rate
8"+ will be charged at the over the top rate of 60% plus and extra lucky bastard excise of $100.00
Testicles cant be claimed as dependants
All taxes are to be paid upon presentation of your penis at the tax department, no extensions will be considered.

^^^ A genuine "LOL" moment. :)

Mate, here in Aus' we even have taxes on our taxes.
They just call one of them something else - ie duty or excise - eg GST on fuel excise.

Taxing air or genitals would be easy here these days...

BTW we do have a Canberra fart party, or more correctly "old fart" party. I won't say what it's otherwise known as though... embarrassed myself last time. :)
