air filter

I have a roush 342 installed in 118 and with their standard 'oval' filter cannot shut the rear clip as the engine is sitting too high by about 1 inch. Can any one suggest a suitable air filter to fit the holley carb that would give suitable clearance but maintain air flow,
On 'American hot rod andWrecks To Riches have seen air filters that both take air from above and the sides therefore are considerably smaller,Any ideas or anyone out there with a similar problem but solved it

Re: air filter

Huw,
I remember but can't find searching the forum someone used a K&N filter that dropped down, you could also put a hat on the top to help air flow even more. I think they are the X-Stream Version. Here's an example at SUmmit: K&N X-Stream Air Flow Assemblies: KNN-66-3040 - summitracing.com

Re: air filter

Huw,
Try Jegs as well: K&N X-Stream Air Flow Filter Assemblies, Tops and Elements - JEGS

With $ exchange rate it may be better/quicker. Also Jegs charge less for an overseas order than Summit. Jegs charge $10.99; Summit $23.95

Lightbulb Re: air filter

For the Holley on P1116 we made a rectangular base that approxamated the shape of the Weber tray and a matching lid. We then found a K&N filter about 1.5" tall that was a large circular shape. Some cuts in the edges of the rubber allowed the filter to be re-shaped into a rectangle. Some 90 degree clips on the top and bottom plates help it to hold the shape and VIOLA! A "Weber" look air filter.

Worked quite well and with the rear deck closed everybody thought it had Webers.
