Another 917 development pic?

John, that very car is the famous 1971 "Pink Pig" with its bodywork being developed by the Paris-based Sera company who also did the body for the 2 longtails for Le Mans in 1970.

It only got its famous paint scheme right before the race and was meant to be raced under the Martini-flag.

Count Rossi, by then owner of Martini, was said to had been absolutely apalled by the
pink racing livery of the car. He just thought the paint scheme by no means did reflect
the livestyle of those who sip his Martinis.

(BTW, leaving aside the paint scheme, the Pink Pig was Ferdinand Piechs favourite 917 as in his opinion the car had the best characteristics of both worlds...long- and shorttail.)

Best,

Marcus

I always liked the pink pig, except for its paint job as well. In black and white photos, the way the body is shaped just looks right. A wise engineer once said "if it doesn't look right, it probably isn't" Seems the reverse is true.
Looked like the only thing left to do would be to tidy up the rear a bit.
