are those fuel tanks on the rear of a 917/20?

If you look at the rear of the 917/20 pink pig, you will see 2 read boxes to the left and right of the trans. I'm not sure what these are, but they look to be extra fuel tanks. Is this what they are? Seems like a frightening place to put fuel tanks....

What I'm talking about can clearly been seen from this picture of a model.

Le mans regulation, in some categories, the car must have a "luggage" compartment...spare wheel, tools....


If a remember well, in 1998, Nissan had some cooling problems with the R390 due to this luggage compartiment. It was a GT1.....road regulation...

I looked at the pink pig at the rennsport event at Daytona last year. These are the required luggage boxes. I'll look for a photo of the car.
