    302 or 351

The Explorer or Mountaineer has an engine code "P", it is EFI (EDIS) and uses the same intake as the Mustang GT but the heads are a bit different. It is also a distributor less ignition like the 4.6 modular engines. The plug angle has been changed for better performance. The bad news is that...

    Crank bolt pattern

I have the same info as Wally on the bolt layout all but one equally spaced on a 3" circle. That one has a 4deg shift. I just dont have the exact relationship between the offset bolt and the counterweight. It appears to be opposit the counterweight but how close to exactly opposit.

Recommendations for how to check Piston to Valve Clearance

In addition to all the good advice above, use a pair of solid lifters unless you are absolutly sure the light springs you use under the valves are weak enough not to compress the spring in the hyd lifter. Hyd lifters without oil are easy to compress. CAREFULLY rotate the engine through an entire...

    Adaptor plate woes

A few years back in an installation kit for a trailer hitch were things that might work. They were pieces of stiff wire, not quite like piano wire, that had a spiral/spring wound into one end and were about a foot long. Bolts were threaded into the spirals and the long end of the wire was...

    Spaceframe Comparison

Doug A good approximation of 1 deg is to lift one end of a length of pipe 5' long 1" (actually 4.77' or 57.3"). This works pretty close up to about 10 or 12 degrees. Like I said, pretty close but not exact. Do the trig calc to see the variation. Sounds like 1" side to side across the chassis is...

Oil pump drive on a 302 with coil packs

V8 Explorers and Mountaineers used a crank/cam sensor instead of a dist. It is much smaller than a dist and still has the oil pump drive on the bottom. Could be an alternative to the machine work on a standard dist.

302 windsor & audi (success stories)

Something that has not been mentioned is the clutch. It is possible that in the taller gears the engine torque is over powering the clutch allowing it to slip? This would make it seem the engine was reving too high at high speeds in top gear. Something else to think about. wm

    Piston pins installation

When he says warm he means several hundred degrees F, 450-600 depending on the rod. There are special rod end heaters for this purpose. It has to be hot enough to expand the hole but not glowing yet. I have found that if you heat the rod end enough to insert the pin but dont put a pin in it the...

    Motorcycle Throtte bodies for V8

My original comment was just comparing the areas of a single TB vrs 8 smaller TBs. I still feel the 8 TBs would flow as much if not more than a single TB in a plenum type system but in a IR I agree that the single TB per port would be restrictive. Wayne

    How to wire master disconnect?

In the hand drawn diagram above the alternator output should be moved to the battery side of the disconnect switch or the ignition system will recieve power from the alternator when the switch is turned off and the engine will continue to run.
