DOME LIGHT

I AM THINKING ABOUT USING THIS AS A DOME LIGHT. IT IS 6 INCHES LONG .. I NEED ONE THAT WILL MOUNT ON A FLAT SURFACE. COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

Today with LED's can you find a self contained battery powered light that wouldn't required switches and wiring ?
I had one from IKEA in my car. Bright enough to see anything needed and in 16 years only changed the batteries twice. stick with double sided tape next to rear view mirror.

Walt, at this age we are all period correct. As an old man like me with white hair I wouldn't worry about it. Yes, there are LED bulbs that fit just about anything. IMHO I wouldn't want to fuss with the wiring.

I just installed the Volvo unit this weekend and it sits flush on a flat surface. Its about 5½" long.

As I was not sure about being able to run the wires through the spider I run them outside in a tube..

For difficult applications there is an approach that is little known. 3M makes rolls of copper foil tape in various widths with adhesive backing. This thin flat tape conducts electricity very well and can be used instead of conventional wiring in places such as running stereo speaker wires under carpet, etc. The Cu tape can be painted or otherwise hidden, too. Being copper, soldering to it is easy.

Its Volvo Amazon all models, also used on Volvo Duett. Pretty close to the original GT40 courtesy light but way cheaper. Usualy around $45.
Bought mine at a Volvo specialist in the Netherlands for €64 with shipping to my doorstep.

The interior of my spider is just painted metal, so I didn't want to drill holes in it. For an interior light I mounted a period number plate light on the far right hand side of the dash. Works well.
