Back in the '60's, I saw a training video regarding R/T procedures. Pilot & copilot chatting, the copilot had just separated from his wife and was very disturbed. On the take-off roll the pilot told the copilot to "Cheer up". Copilot replied "Roger, gear up". You can imagine what happened next.

I was actually in an aeroplane when an excited loud call of " V1 SPEED - AGAIN - REDUCING AIRSPEED". The next call was" MAX POWER" and the gear was selected up at the third call of "V1 SPEED " though neither the second or third call related to the runway distance anymore. It was Gibraltar, quite gusty and we encountered an incredible tailwind. I think we might have penetrated Spanish Airspace which was a definite NO NO at the time. Molleur - I love your tail of Cheer Up. Communications are everything - remember "send 3 and fourpence, we're going to a dance" ?

Woops - I only meant to cut and paste the picture of our Nimrod, the first for 203 squadron arriving at it's new home in Malta, but it seems the other three pictures came with it and I can't edit them out now. Even if I knew how to do it which I don't. Never mind - just ignore them.
