If you did this your car would be registered as an "Assembled" 65 Mustang. When I had my car inspected the inspector explained that if a person bought or made parts of the car just like the origional this is how it's registered. This is at least true in Washington State. If you took the replica tubs and aftermarket parts that I have seen on this forum and built a GT40 in Washington it would be regestereg as an assembled 66 GT40. The guy looking at my car thought it was close enough (even though it's not) and registered it as an assembled 66 GT40. It could have and should have been registered as a "scratch built car" but when the error is in your favor...

Interesting perspective. Using Mr. Leno's ideas, my Cobra is a kit. I've always thought of my particular GT40 as a hotrod. To be a replica it would at least need to be carbed with right-hand drive and right-hand shift. I have no interest in driving a right-hand drive car in the USA, and the drivetrain.... well, I like what I like. So it's a hotrod.

In Florida, all replicas and kits are registered as "Kit Cars" and it appears on the title that way, regardless if the manufacturer provides an VIN number or not.
