Nitto Tires makes a drag radial (model 555)275/50/15 Not ideal but there is word that they are developing and autocross/street tire.
 
Only 1075 used 14" rear´s in 1969..
GT40ies used a lot of different combinations...

5 mm of tread would be fine for me as a starting depth. The Goodrich ZR1 tyres I ran for a while only had 4.5 mm tread but excellent grip. Lasted about 2000 miles per set. Tread wear rating of 00 ! Maybe I need to see the Hoosiers to check them out further.

All-Maybe a little late for this thread, but I have 7X15 and 9X15 wheels running 245/50X15 and 295/50X15 BFG Euro T/A Radial tires. They are H-rated, handle pretty well on the race track (but not as good as slicks, of course), and are reasonably priced. They adjust to tire pressures well, and seem to be wearing nicely also. The tires also fill up the wheel wells, such that the tires do not look too small for the car. Another option to consider...
