There are a couple things going on in the US that I've never experienced before, and that I honestly never thought I would ever see in my lifetime. One of them is serious talk, among serious folk, of the very real threat of widespread civil unrest and revolution in my country. The other is a very real possibility (measured by economists at about 6%) of the US defaulting on its debt.
And I'm too old to emegrate to Australia! Maybe it's time to build that cabin in the woods of New Hampshire...

Thanks for posting that, and yes a lot of us here in the U.S. are scared.
A lot of us feel that our country is being taken away from us, and as Mark mentioned there is a growing group that feels things are fast coming to a head. I remember watching that Glen Beck show, and he may be a nut but he speaks the truth, in his own way.
Spydermike, with all due respect, look what they have done to your state. The real nuts are taking California down the tubes with the Jerkinator at the helm. The only thing good about it is you are a bit better off than we here in New Jersey...we rank dead last!
Mark's state has the great fortune to have two outstanding individuals, Barney Frank, and Ted Kennedy, both incompetent and if I may go as far as calling them criminals I think many would agree.
Pete, I admire your interest, and concern, as many people here are totally uninformed, or feel that there is nothing they can do, you have done more than most U.S. citizens by posting from outside our country.
You should check out Mark Levin at WABC radio.com and click on the listen live. or listen to the archived shows as he is on from 6 to 9 pm eastern here, he is dead on about the problems facing us.

That is the general feeling we get here too, EU has already done it to most of Europe and now the NAU is doing it to Canada, USA and Mexico.
The Jerkinator is right in with the Kennedys and their Financier associates, looking after their own interests.
As far as this is concerned
that is probaly the only reason things aren't worse than what they are - the Bill of Rights and your right to bear arms is keeping things at bay for now.......

They are slowly but surely trying to take our right to bear arms in this country as well. Ongoing bills being presented in the house are limiting our weapons as well as enforcing regulation and licensing of every weapon everywhere. The sad thing is they are catering to what happened on 9-11 and people's fear of being unsafe. "Safety" to me is having enough ammo and trained people in my household to hold off a group of crazy sombitches for a while. Safety to me is NOT a government who decides what I can do with what where. They are presenting these bills that are extremely huge (1,100+ pages long) and are giving just hours for review before a vote. How the hell are you supposed to read 1100 pages in 13 hours? That's 1 page every 1.5 minutes with no bathroom or food breaks. Then they want you to vote on it with a reasonable understanding of what you're voting for? Most of these new bills have legislation piggybacked on them for weapons control when a bill has nothing at all to do with weapons. Same thing with the economic bills that are sliding through congress. These things are moving through there so fast that no one knows anything about them, and yet they're voting on them?! WTF?!
When did we become a communist nation? I missed that vote. When did it become our government's perogitive to micromanage all aspects of our lives? Aren't they supposed to be focusing on the main issues of this country such as infrastructure? How about a national budget for projects that are supposed to HELP people rather than hurt a work ethic that was brought over on boats with people from countries with no opportunity with the intent to work HARD for an opportunity to make something of themselves, rather than have it handed to them as a "right".
I may be a young guy (30) but damnit this pisses me off to no end. I work my ASS off for the chance to make it. I have extremely high goals and expectations of myself and I will WORK to achieve them. It seems this country has become nothing but a bunch of lazy mother f***ers who think this country OWES them something. This country owes you NOTHING but opportunity. That's what it was founded upon. Now we are torn between those who know, and those who THINK they know.
I swear to God before everyone here, the moment they pass legislature to license every weapon owned, I will be a criminal. I will NOT license my weapons. If they want them, they will have them 3 ways... Hot, Empty, and in my cold dead hands. Call me a fanatic, but Jesus Christ people, what are they doing to America? Since when did ELECTED officials become so powerful? Since when did we elect such corrupt people into office? And, since when did these ELECTED officials decide they were able to completely ignore the public for their own interrests?
I think it all stems back to the lazyness factor. If you are wanting to win an election, cater to the masses. The masses who voted for Nobama are the lazy people of the nation. They work menial jobs and make low pay. He promises them the world. They eat it up and vote for him in masses. The people who really know and are concerned now look like the bad guys. He made people who are successful into the enemy? How the hell is that? Since when was success BAD?! But now it is, and if you're rich or well off, you are now the enemy and target for the government to take from you to give to the welfare population.
Congratulations, you are now being punished for being a productive member of society and the nonproductive, Jerry Springer watchin, 6th generation welfare collecting, drug dealing, tax evading, population is being rewarded.
Sorry but it's fucked up. Excuse my language, but that's the only way I can express it. And the really sad thing is this... WE CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!!! Tell me what we can do to change it and I'll do it. You say vote, but guess who counts the votes? Government controlled entities. Oh, they're all electronic now? There's no paper trail? Oh hell, the computer crashed, oh hell, someone hacked into the computer and changed the outcome... See where I'm going?

Who it "they"? Last I checked, the citizens own the state and the country. It is our fault for letting this happen. This country has been sliding downhill ever since I have been alive (49 years). Sure there have been some ups, but in general, the overall trend is negative in almost all regards in my opinion.
I hear people bitching about increased taxes, but they seem to have forgetten the past. The top tax structure, from what I have been told, is changing from 36 to 39 percent - like it was in the 1990s. WTF? How is that going to hurt if they make the top tier income? How well did the tax cuts of the past affect these folks directly - especially if you are not in the top tier? There is a larger wealth divide than before.
I have yet to meet anyone who is afraid of losing rights - guns or what have you - that has actually lost any rights. All this fearmongering - like Beck does - in my opinion is bad and just creates hysteria. Nothing good comes from it.
I guess I feel for the people that live in this fear a littel bit, but I just don't get it....life is too short.
Suck it up folks - lets move on and fix this f-er while we still can.

Please educate me as to how getting a gun license takes away your rights? Does your drivers license and car license do that as well? I don't understand...

Check your respective State's Consitution about licensing and insurance requirements for vehicles. They were written for commercial use only. Not private vehicles. The laws are applied equally for both. 'Bubba sherrif and judges do not seem to know this...

I don't care if you are a conservative, liberal, democratic, repeblican, socialist, communist or an alien from outer space. If you have a brain, that video representation of the USA's printing of money to fund our indulgent ways should scare the hell out of you!! Instead of bad mouthing Glenn Beck or anyone else who blows the whistle on the idiots we have elected (espedially in congress)you should be thanking and praising them for their research and for informing the public. Unfortunately the American people don't seem to have the will to ween themselves from the public bottle. If you read what Brian said you will see he is saying the work ethic brought over by the people who came here is a good one. THey are wanting a chance to work and make a better life. The policies this current administration is making is hurting that work ethic that this country was built on. It is catering to those who feel they are owed the finer things in life.
And by them promising to give rebate checks to people who did not even pay taxes was an out and out vote buy for the non working class.
As far as these radio show people, Why is the current administration trying to silence them? The bills that they have tried to push thru on guns and immigration in the past proves you have to be watching them. Otherwise you will wake up and they will have pushed these things thru. You watch, they will try and give amnesty to all the ILLEGLE IMMIGRANTS so they can sway the voter base. Even though the CITIZENS of this country have spoken out overwhealmingly against it.
Speaking of scare mongering. What is all the BS about militant groups? They are using this to try and impose weapons bans. Hillary went to Mexico and told them all how it is the US 's fault for supplying their country with guns. So this will be another reason to ban guns. They are always on an agenda.
How great do you think it will be when the government takes over the car companies to keep us all safe? They will design us the car that they think we need. Can you see a Yugo with a bumper all the way arround it and a 1 volt motor. This will be done to conserve energy so Al Gore can run his big car and his megawatt home. Maybe you need to take off your blinders. Bigger government is not the answer.
