Is this a case that I should contact SPF and request an upgrade? That or just buy a nice welder and fix it myself.

Keep in mind the one failure we know of took 28,000 mi. to appear. My suggestion would be to buy the Pathfinder kit; it's a bolt-on (with a little drilling).

I just installed the Pathfinder plates on P2125 (see pics in the SPF Forum under Upgrades to P2125).

Easy install.
