Who rides cycles around here?

I never looked into this thread, because i thought it´s about cycles ( you know the twowheeled thing where you have to push the pedals). Just realised is about motorcycles.

Here are two of my rides:

EGLI KAWASAKI: 1981: 1200 cc Z 1000 engine with all the best parts 138 HP; 125 NM ; a torque monster, its just pulling steadily from 4500 till 9500 (always above 100 nm) see charts onby; 195 kg including 5 l gas; 1 out of 40 ( turboframe). Completly rebuilt to that condition by myself.

Here's my old '71 Suzuki GT380 project bike. Picked it up for a couple hundred bucks with the carbs extremely gummed up and taken apart. The last time the bike ran was about 30 years ago, I soaked and cleaned the carbs, replaced the battery mixed some fuel and about 10 kicks later she lives! Damn bike runs great. I love the 2 stroke and kick start too.

Agree. I also kick start my red bike (which is not so easy at 11,75:1 compression and 15° before idle timing, sometimes it kicks back ,which i have not experienced on any other 4 cylinder).

My 1976 Norton 850 Commando darned near broke my leg once when it kicked back.. I bet I limped for a month...

The reason I had to kick start it was that the electric start could be used maybe 2 or 3 times on a brand new battery.. Even fully charging a battery after that - it (the battery) still did not have the gonads to start that bike... I'm sure that the battery was undersized but it was the biggest that would fit in the chassis..

Loved the old Suzuki 750cc Water Buffalos...

Tom,
your bikes are very nice, I especially like the Gulf Suzuki. I cant imagine how much fun it would be to race in a nostalgia bike series. For now zip'in up and down the street will have to suffice.

Water buffalo's are super cool too, check out this bad ass one in the vid:

By the way, I can't find a set of expansion pipes for my GT380 if my life depended on it. Seen a set from "jolly-moto" I think thats what it is called, but they are outside of the US and bookoo-bucks. Anyone have any ideas, other than custom fab?

It's a BMW K1200LT. THE best bike in the world bar none! (sorry, I am biased, it's my fourth!)I recently bought a 1972 Suzuki GT750 water cooled (water buffalo?) hoping to rekindle some memories of my youth.....BIG mistake! noisy, rattly, slow, juicy, handled like a pig. I loved it, but couldn't bear to ride it, so it went.
I do like my comfort now I'm officialy an old fa*t, on the BMW, you sit on the motorway, set the screen height (electrically) turn on the seat heaters, flick the cruise control on, then search through your favourite tunes in the 6 CD changer...BLISS!

Time to throw in the towel - the essence of motorcycle is gone at this level, that thing is a two wheel luxury vehicle!

Simon Simon Simon....

How could you sell the 'kettle' - they are just lovely, 70s handling and that beautiful crackle that only a 2-stroke tripple can give.. I hope you got top £ for it...

These are my 2 wheel rides at this moment. The Triumph Tiger in the USA and the BMW 1200GS in South Africa. I had a nice collection of mainly Italian bikes in SA and had to sell them before we moved to the USA. The BMW 1200GS is there for me to use during the summer months (Nov-Dec) when I visit SA.

I had an 85 K100RT that was just a marvelous bike and the predecessor to the K1200LT. Ran smooth as silk like it had a giant electric motor. Accelerated like a rocket - stopped better than any bike I ever owned. Handled like a sport bike.

It had no soul..

Sold it and got back into a Thumpin' V-Twin (1999 Victory V92C) and have got to say that I bonded with that bike almost immediately..

The Beemer was a wonderful bike - just not my bike...

Now the 82 Honda CBX that I picked up this fall has some real character. It's distinctive sound, great acceleration, mediocre brakes and handling that's not as good as my 725# Victory - well - let's just say it has a piece of my heart and my attention..

That's an interesting observation Randy and one I agree with for some of the BMW's. I had a K1100 LT and found it to be souless as well. I almost felt disconected from the road. Not the case with my K100RS or my old R75/5

.

You should have bought my GT750, It had none of the good points you listed, but soul by the bucketload.
I find the going, stopping and handling is what does it for me!
