Screw In vs Press In vs Bolt In Ball Joints

Thanks for the tips on this, the Locost site has been a wealth of info. I like the idea of the screw in ball joint with a tack weld to ensure it doesn't try to back out.

Screw In vs Press In vs Bolt In Ball Joints

I realize that if you are utilizing control arms that came with the car, only one of these would be the appropriate fit. But if you were building your own control arms, is one of these preferred to another?

    Sizing custom fabbed control arms

Once my upright arrives, I will put together some final drawings. I am also planning on doing a mockup with 1" conduit to make sure things are going to go together how I plan them to.

    C5 Corvette Ball Joint Taper?

Ya Doug, that Moog unit is precisely the one I am trying to avoid. I looked at some AFCO low friction ball joints, but they specify vehicles, not specific taper. It looks like there are only two part numbers for GM vehicles, I'll try getting on the phone and see if I can get something figured out.

    Sizing custom fabbed control arms

I should also note that I am not committed to one thickness for all control arms. The lower control arms are more highly stressed than the uppers and I would think that the rears would need to be more stout than the front. I was thinking front upper gauge X, front lower and rear upper gauge Y...

    C5 Corvette Ball Joint Taper?

What are you guys planning for lower ball joints? I would think that there would be options other than the $120 each Corvette replacements that would work just as well in fabricated lower control arms.

    Sizing custom fabbed control arms

I am going to fabricate my upper & lower control arms and I am trying to figure out where I can go to determine what diameter and wall steel tubing I need. I am pretty set on using 1" diameter DOM for all of arms and pushrods, but I just don't know where to begin figuring wall thickness. The...

    Spaceframe Comparison

My question is this: If shear panels of appropriate grade and thickness are bonded and riveted to the chassis, does this triangulation become redundant and weight adding? My plan is to bond and rivet aluminum panels (top and bottom) to the square tubing with rigid foam epoxied in the void...

    Dry sump info

That sucks to hear. He was very accommodating with my pan that was first quality when received. My application required cutting the heck out of one of his pans and fabricating several pieces to put it back together. I don't have the equipment to tig it back together, so he offered to have me...

    Dry sump info

Gary Armstrong at ARE (drysump.com) makes some great cast aluminum pans and is very helpful. You can often source barnes or other dry sump pumps on ebay at a significant discount. Pack lots of cash!! Granted I was just using a stock low mileage LS1 engine, but I had more money in my oiling...

Stoneleigh Kit Car Show UK GT40 pictures

It's funny, I saw that and said to myself that I love the Gulf livery on just about every car I see it on (Ultima included). A notable exception is the McLaren F1 that had a dark blue / orange.

Newbie here, not a GT40 but love the site

I have been a long time lurker on the site, and have learned a lot from the info on here. I have a somewhat ambitious project that is doing what you guys are doing, but fast forward about 35 years. The techniques will be similar, but the finished product will resemble (as closesly as possible)...
