    289/302-Wet or Dry sump Best?

Interesting topic for me: Got my GT40 on the track for its first circuit sprint event on Sunday. And looking at gauge on first timed lap you could see pressure dropping significantly once getting to around 1 g cornering. Which is not enough to be competitive (1.2 - 1.3 g is the aim)So I...

    Rebuilding a Race Engine

My 2 cents worth: Been through this 347 saga recently. My 40 is for competition, so I specced my engine as follows: New Ford Racing Boss block. Bored 30 thou. Scat 347 rotating assembly. Cast crank, I beam Rods and KB forged pistons. 10.44 compression ratio. Edelbrock Victor Jr. Heads. Not...

GT40, Daytona, Cobra & Mustang Cruise

Some pics of a cruise combining Ford's 60's road and race cars. Was a good day all round. The 40 finally clocked up some driving without many problems, wow! Mundaring pub run - Club Cobra

    DRB GT40 #67 In-car Video Autotest

Some in-car footage of the first competition event for 200MPH. Only managed 3 runs before the alternator decided it would stop charging when hot and make horrible noises! That plus an oil leak (suspected at dipstick insert to front cover) put a premature end to the day's precedings. Driver is...

    Electric water pumps - Discussion

Ron, Have a Davies Craig electric water pump mounted in the front of my DRB. Reason I went this way was to simplify belt system and get more things off the front of motor, where space is limited. Have run with stock 5.0L (ex mustang type motor) and standard thermostat. That worked well. Now...

    Master cylinder sizing

Bill, See attached spreadsheet for what I used with my DRB. Short answer is, use 5/8" master cyl if you don't want a hard pedal and don't mind some pedal travel. Mine does not have a hard pedal, and is very easy to modulate, albeit with a fair amount of pedal travel. Got to bleed brakes up...

    DRB #67 First Drive

Stephen, I just used the template supplied with aerocatches and cut the rear clip to suit. Welded tabs on to cage backstays and mounted catch bolts. Bit fiddly trying to align it all though. I can't speak forthe inside of a DAX rear clip, but on the DRB I had to remove quite a bit of...

    DRB #67 First Drive

Yep, they are aerocatches. I didn't like the look of any of the normal 'hood pins' and so went for these. Very happy with them. Thanks for kind words Pete - we looked at your build log many, many times during the builds (my car is the 'sister' car to DRB #67, see Albany GT40 in build logs).

    DRB #67 First Drive

Re: DRB #67 First Drive Now With Photos Well, after yet another 'fun' Sunday in the garage, got pretty much all the bits bolted to it and now it looks basically complete. See attached photos. Plan is to put a black "GT40" strip down tank covers to break up the red, otherwise I'm fairly happy...

    DRB #67 First Drive

Troy - Yeah, Errol was following in his XR6 Turbo and Dave was the quality lensman. Shoulda tied him to my tow hook and shoved the camera in his mouth. Would keep him quiet and give better quality video! Note: Don't ask Dave to help with installing rego stickers..."No, actually that's supposed...

    DRB #67 First Drive

Finally got DRB #67 GT40 on the road on Sunday. Been over a year since I last drove it home from road registration inspection. Sigh... Video link attached. Now just gotta get the rest of the bits bolted to it. Then hit the track and find out how it handles. Drives very well on the road, but that...

347 Windsor Stroker First Run on Dyno

Well, after much fooling about and much spent, my proper motor is finally done and ready to go in to the 40. I've had my DRB GT40 registered for nearly a year and not driven it since rego as it was built initially to get through registration requirements with a suitable motor and I have since...

    302 AU Falcon Engine

You could also try DRB - they may front brackets and pulleys to suit injected Windsors, though I'm not sure about the AU motors. I used an ED falc motor in my GT40 and made my own alternator bracket, but am not running water pump or a/c, so was a lot simpler than what you want to do no doubt.

    leaking turbo gasket

Don't be so sure about no GT40's with turbos. There's one (a GTD40 also) in my city with twin turbos... I'm not that brave (silly) and have gone 8 stack injection for mine, but I sure miss turbo boost kick of my old car, sigh. Anyways, back to your problem - have you checked both the exh...

    Camber Gain Data

I've only got limited experience with fooling around with camber. My last competition car had strut front end and live rear axle. All I could do was increase static front camber until thermal imaging of front tyre showed even temperatures across tread. Ended up with 4 deg front static camber...

    Camber Gain Data

Neil - this info wouldn't be required for your Godiva project would it? Anyways, don't have data on a new Ford GT, but have mapped my suspsension on my GT40 replica. Front and rear camber curves attached. Don't know how well it works yet on the track. Drives nicely on the road, but won't...

CdA of a GT40 - Calculate your optimal gearing...

OK, well here are the aero figures from John Horsmans book. He gives frontal area as 17.58 sq feet. But there are two Cd figures quoted, .312 and .35, and it's not clear what car configuration they relate to. So, kW needed to overcome aero drag at different speeds are, based on the above two...

CdA of a GT40 - Calculate your optimal gearing...

There are CdA figures in John Horsman's book, 'Racing in the Rain'. But as Fran says, which particular style of GT40 are you referring to. Actually, there are two Cd figures in the book but no information as to why and what exact body styles they refer to, so I did the calcs for drag for each to...

    Radiator Sizes & Angles?

Guys, you're getting away from reality when you start talking emmisivity, paint colours, polished surfaces etc and radiator performance. Fact: The emmisivity of a radiator will have virtually no effect on heat transfered. It is the forced convective method of heat transfer that does the job...

    Battery disconnect switch

What Howard said! I put mine over my outboard shoulder, so I could easily reach over with my inboard arm and flick it off. If I need to include a lanyard, it will be easy to attach a cable and have it come out on the narrow panel behind the door and in front of rear clip.
