    Widebody RCR40

Getting the spider ready to shoot some epoxy on the inside I realized I didn't have a rearview mirror. I suppose something modern could be glued to the windshield but I like the look of the Lucas vintage unit. I found that the Jag XKE used the same mirror but the mounting was different. It...

    Widebody RCR40

Well, the world is shut down so I might as well post some stuff. Much of my time has been dedicated to getting the fuel tanks in. This should be a relatively simple process but not for me...! I put a 3 qt Accusump in the drivers side pontoon so that tank needed to be shortened by about 8"...

Chassis’ in order BEST TO WORST

I hear that. I’m 39 with a 4 and 7 year old so garage time is difficult. I find that I’m much less sympathetic of wasted time and redoing things. My rcr40 will force me to take some time off following completion.

No weld fusion on frame welds?

Can’t see to the root of the weld but it looks like a tensile fracture. The base materials proved stronger than the weld itself. I imagine that area could have been prepped better to accept a deeper penetration weld. Maybe secondary brackets to hedge their bets in the event of high g impact. We...

No weld fusion on frame welds?

The weld of an aluminum joint is weaker than the base material which is converse to most steel applications. The welds on the RCR chassis are not cold welds. Not on my chassis or any that I’ve seen. One could argue the joint construction can be different but impact integrity is much a different...

    RCR GT40 Rear Clip Width

Additionally, the rocker placement both width and longitudinal position are very important. It’s possible match to the rocker width to the “toes” of the front clip but have one were they are sucked in. So narrow in front and wide in the rear.

    RCR GT40 Rear Clip Width

If the rocker panels are set properly to the width of the front clip then your rear clamshell probably widened when the fender extensions were installed. There is also the possibility the part wasn’t constructed properly from the Canadian supplier rcr uses.

Anti-submarine strap install on RCR GT40

I have the thigh wrapping anti-submarine belts which require mounting back behind the occupant. In my car the lower seat pan is slid forward leaving a sizable gap from that pan to the rear bulkhead. I drilled holes in that gap to anchor the tabs.

    Widebody RCR40

Mounting the engine accessories was more difficult than I anticipated. There wasn't enough room to run a single serpentine so I went with a dual row and mounted the AC compressor on the back and the alternator on the front. I also wanted some version of a Ford alternator to work but the 105A...

    Widebody RCR40

Thanks for the kind words. Before this project was started I co planned something vintage to build that would be similar money. The other plan was a 70 'cuda coupe with Viper V-10/6 speed, Roadster Shop frame, integrated roll cage, big rubber, big brakes...etc. What hedged the decision was...

    Widebody RCR40

I've been busy for the last couple months, painting parts, assembling, and fighting the ever present questions of why I'm doing this. It's got pretty cold in Ohio so painting requires military like planning. Most of the paint I've been spraying has been SPI black epoxy, which like most is...

    J. Salmon RCR-40 Build

Great info. Just ordered all the parts for my car. I’d rather swap the boots before the car gets any miles. I haven’t heard anything good about the driveshaft shop boots when running at the angles we have.

    RCR Gt40 Rocker Install?

I mounted mine on the upper side of the chassis flange using nutplates rivetted to the rocker. I found that when balancing the overall width at the rocker edges & getting the upper rocker flange to sit flat the top of that flange was the only way. The net benefit was that the chassis is the...

    Widebody RCR40

Found the issue. Kennedy machines a relief to clear the transmission's locating bead and that was not cut deep enough. I thought it was a Kennedy adapter plate vs RCR issue. The flywheel would have had the issue with their own adapter plates. So back it goes to Kennedy...

    Widebody RCR40

Need some help. Bought a Kennedy flywheel and stage 2 clutch and upon assembling it to the engine I found the flywheel contacts the RCR adapter plate. It seems to have about a .020 interference. I imagine the Kennedy adapter is thinner allowing the trans to sit closer to the engine. I...

    Louis' RCR MKII Build

On my mk1 the spider was at least 3/4” further back. With that the rockers need to move back. I had to trim the lower portion of the rocker panels to eliminate some of the front edge. This allowed the rear of those to be at the 52 or 54mm from the trailing edge of the chassis.
