    EPAS (Electric Power Assist Steering)

Ian, we had to use the new fangled transistor as the V8 and hard suspension vibration was killing the valve filaments. Picking up the ABS (although I don't presently have ABS on the car) and/or other pulses was an option, I wanted to see how the present system worked out. K

    EPAS (Electric Power Assist Steering)

Thanks Ian Part of the problem is that I don’t have any speed or rev pulses, the speedo is mechanical. In due course I will look at taking an electronic pulse from the speedo to the EPAS. I too am in the electronics game and with the help of a colleague have designed a simple microprocessor...

    JaseH's GTForte

Jayson, on my Tornado the top pipe protrudes about 2.5" from the rear of the cross members of the chassis, the bottom protrudes about 8". I'd have to say that 8" is too much as the 90 degree bend (on the end of this pipe) is sitting against the sump, 6" would be sufficient. Hope this helps. Errr...

    SBF water t/stat opening temp

Thanks guys,... G'day Bob. Of course the running temp and stat open temp are different, I understand that opening early will subject the engine to unnecessary wear. The problem I am having is that a lot of bypass stats seem to have sealed housings, therefore you can't change the stat mechanism...

Tornado TS40 Build Belfast Northern Ireland

Spent the August bank holiday Monday getting the Corsa EPAS in place. Tacked the front bracket in position and bolted the Corsa EPAS column to it, it's a bit awkward getting the correct angle (~14 deg) and height as well as centring it with the dash. With the front bracket in place and the...

    SBF water t/stat opening temp

I am in the process of installing an electric water pump in the front compartment along with a bypass thermostat, I notice some SBF stats seem to be quoted to open at 91C/196F (seems high). I was looking at some BMW bypass ones were switching at 71C/160F and 80C/176F. I am not sure how...

    Electronics question

Hi Bill, just saw your postings, if the sensors are unpowered, then the output could be small, you may indeed need a scope to fully quantify the pulse as Bill B suggests; in electronics it is sometimes essential to know the magnitude, duration, frequency and other characteristics of the input...

Tornado TS40 Build Belfast Northern Ireland

Jon, where did you cut? I have drawn 2 lines around the bearing housing, I am proposing to cut flush to the main body, so plan to cut at the lower line, below the lub holes, unless I'm told otherwise.

Tornado TS40 Build Belfast Northern Ireland

Thanks David, what I would like to do is clean up the whole arrangement, ideally close the unused ports and totally remove the impellor, shaft and bearing housing to flatten the front face, then perhaps press a disc into the hole when the bearing lump is removed? K

Tornado TS40 Build Belfast Northern Ireland

Started back at the 40 today, first chance after my holidays. I've decided to fit an electric water pump in the front bay, to allow me to (a) get rid of the lump and (b) not to have to route the heater hoses down the centre of the car. I have a couple of questions; I plan to remove the...

cylinders 1 and 7 are cold

Hi John, I am not sure I understand your last statement:- "...But the strange thing, from my understanding, the waveform taken at the HT coil wire should look the same as taking it from the plug wire... its the same circuit..." can you clarify with a diagram where the trace was taken, sorry...

cylinders 1 and 7 are cold

Hi John, it would be interesting to see Ch 1 on the LT side and Ch 2 on the HT so we could see the 2 waves on the same time domain trace. As the HT trace represents the breakdown of the air/petrol mixture, I would expect it to be a 'dirty' waveform, as the current flow would be related to a...
