    Daytona coupe project

Don't forget this one, the AC coupe; the prettiest of the lot. http://www.classic-car-tours.com/communities/2/004/009/226/402//images/4600025425_444x297.jpg

    Weber carbs - reversion plate

The IDA/Le Mans cam combo definitely has the 'ripping calico' sound but is no good on the road ( in 289 form). Sub 3500 rpm runs quite rough, oils plugs, pops, bangs, spits etc. 4000rpm on up simpkly glorious!

    Daytona coupe project

If i recall correctly the Simeone car was once owned by Phil Spector, who gave the car to his bodyguard, who subsequently died and whose wife locked the car away for a long time leading to the general opinon in Shelby circles that the car was 'lost' - and then it got complicated....

H beam or I beam rods

The critical thing about rods is the bolts. My experience has been that rod failure is almost always a bolt failure - thay need to be lifed and properly installed (bolt stretch preferably). A rod such as the Crower Sportsman (I beam) is good for c 550 bhp/7500rpm and is generally lighter than...

    More Global Cooling/Warming/Change hoax.

The argo buoys do not measure deep sea temps, they are limted to a depth of 2000 meters. The averge depth of the oceans is c.3800 m. RSS ZERO trend:

    More Global Cooling/Warming/Change hoax.

The original source for land temp indices is the GHCN. Those you mention are derived via selection, homogenisation and adjustment amongst other procedures; they are not original. The other sources you do not mention are UAH and RSS - both satellite temp sensor systems that avoid many of the...

    More Global Cooling/Warming/Change hoax.

Reality would seem to be the other way round! Taken from Cryosphere Today: Arctic sea ice anomaly currently 661,000 sq km under 1979 to 2008 mean Antarctic anomaly currently 1,200,000. sq km over 1979 to 20008 mean

    More Global Cooling/Warming/Change hoax.

Jumping the gun a bit! What the WMO report actually says; “If November and December maintain the same global temperature anomaly value, the best estimate for 2014 according to this measure would place it as the warmest year on record. The year, however, is not yet over. Comparing January to...

    Hi-Po Heads exhaust threads

I seem to remember that my set of hipo heads had to have sealer on some of the exhaust studs because they intruded on the water jacket. They were extensively modified - that may or may not be relevant. It's 25 years since that engine was together!

    Porsche 917 - am I crazy?

Come on, the Can Am 917s had that turbo 1100hp engine with horrific lag - and you're worrying about 700hp?

    Gurney Weslake engine?

Good news on the carbs: 48 IDA-4 = 37mm chokes and the serial numbers indicate they were made between 1966 and 1970. Apart from the desirability of period correctness, these carbs are far better made and finished than the later ones from Spain.

    Gurney Weslake engine?

Block code is above the starter motor. Since your carbs are mounted fuel entry to the outside you will have to look on the inside faces of the carbs.

    Gurney Weslake engine?

Yes those are GW mk4 heads. They are most likely to be the later AAR road version cast by A&M rather than the WM cast race version as fitted to GT40s (see differences here Gurney Weslake Homepage ). The Webers will be worth most if they are period Italian ones - check for numbers stamped on...

    Fuel injection for original gt40

FAV developed a slide throttle Lucas metered FI system for the GW engine with the fuel metering unit driven off the back of the cam. They didn't pursue it beyond testing and only made one system, but the slide throttle design was adapted by Gurney who made a few sets for constant flow setups...

    Original Road Car Engine specifications

I had an period Gt40 engine some years ago (Alan Mann) and the spec was this; HiPo block and crank (with grooved mains), HiPo rods with TRW hi comp forged pistons (12:1), ported heads with 1.9/1.6 valves, 'Le Mans' cam, 48 IDAs and Aviaid pan. This is pretty close to the spec Shelby used for his...
