    Block color?

I have read here on the forum and seen pictures that both black and ford blue were used. When Peter Klutt restored 1028 they painted the block Ford blue. He extensively researched the original build of that car.

    Pantera trans

DeTomaso used the ZF in the Mangusta. It was oriented the same way it is in the original Ford GT cars. That is the way it was designed. When DeTomaso designed the Pantera, they elected to use the ZF again but "flipped" it over to gain ground clearance. Hence, ZF designed the -1 and...

    Pantera trans

Pantera ZF serial numbers do not align to Pantera chassis numbers what so ever. Nor did the DeTomaso factory record what serial number ZF they put in a specific car. And, given the fact many ZFs were blown, Ford had a load of ZFs sent to dealers in crates to become the spare parts bin for the...

    Marchal headlights....which bulbs

The original type 21 Marchal light takes a conventional R2 bulb. If you buy an H4, ensure it has the R2 base. But then I don't know exactly what model Marchal you have. There are many that look like the real light...

Help mating zf and dart block!!

I also found this newer supplement on ERA's site. It shows 4.8"

Help mating zf and dart block!!

I believe it applies to all of them. the total length must not exceed 4.7" You are certain your shaft is hitting the end of the pilot hole and not being stopped by the pilot bearing? You also said you got rid of the Safir bearing and are using a bushing?

Help mating zf and dart block!!

Can you post the picture. My manual has no picture in it. Just placeholders for them. What does yours measure?

Help mating zf and dart block!!

For what it's worth, the ERA build manual says the bellhousing must measure 4.0" face to face. It also says this about the -2 ZF:

Help mating zf and dart block!!

I measure mine at 3.957" approximate. I believe the conflict is with the varying crank pilot hole dimensions as some builders herein have not experienced this issue. But your's has certainly made me aware of what to watch for when I get to this point. If it were me, I would trim the end of...

Help mating zf and dart block!!

I forgot the ZF input shaft is actually hollow for about 0.5" in so that cut will be much simpler.

Help mating zf and dart block!!

Very interesting information -- your thread certainly enlightened me prior to doing the same thing. That's a pretty hard shaft to cut with a Dremel?

Help mating zf and dart block!!

Here's another critical measure I took that you may confirm. Assembled bellhousing onto ZF. Added back plate. Put straight edge across the opening and measured the amount the ZF input shaft sticks out beyond. I get 7/8" exactly.

Help mating zf and dart block!!

To clarify what Bob told me regarding the position of my pilot bearing on my ZF input shaft in the picture I posted herein, he said the bearing was sitting further on the shaft that it will be in the final installation. I probably had poorly stated what he said earlier. I have yet to do this...

Happy New Year and current values

There is a totally rebuilt ZF for sale on the forum now. Totally redone. That should give you an idea of pricing. There is a ZF repair / rebuild manual out there (it's a very large PDF file).

My bellhousing measures 3 and 15/16" thick from mounting face to face.

Help mating zf and dart block!!

No - I put a straight edge across the face of the ZF and measure from there out. No bellhousing on it.

Help mating zf and dart block!!

I just measured the input shaft on my -2. From the ZF mating surface (the little raised ring that runs around the inner surface of the flange) to the tip of the input shaft snout is exactly 4 and 7/8". Bob Wood knows his setup inside out. I would call him. He has already confirmed for me...

Bring A Trailer (BAT) Cautionary Tale....

Tyler Hoover from car TV shows got taken. His YT post follows - same M.O. Car looks sweet and is a mechanical nightmare. I would file a complaint with BaT.
