Roll Cage Information for GT40 Please

Re: roll cage pictures please Since there are 20 replies to this thread and only Dean Lampe has seen fit to actually post pictures of his roll cage, perhaps I can point you in the direction of another thread that actually has some tech and pictures in it...

    Ground Clearance

Good question Tom. I would think that aerodynamic downforce on the outside of the car due to a positive rake will dominate any under-car aerodynamics.

    Ford motor/Audi transmission adaptions

Interesting. I assume it's a modular setup? (I'm not referring to the oversized, overweight, underpowered, insufficiently reliable OHC engines from Ford.) That is, sets of trans bellhousing adapters and engine block adapters with a common means of fastening one to the other? Very slick...

    GULF OIL-CAV License

Oh dear...licensing. There are a lot of unlicensed GUlf-colored GT40s out there; I hope nobody gets in trouble. Personally, I'd expect to be compensated by Gulf for rolling around in a powder blue car. :p:

    Fed up with Chinese tools

Amazing how 95% of the crap in the world is made in China right now. Yes, greedy, short-sighted importers and resellers bear much of the blame, but the Chinese are also notorious for cutting corners wherever they can to squeeze that last little bit of profit margin from their wares...

    Kustom Metal Werks and Exhausts

But your 5-year-old advice is as good as ever, Ron. Get a welder, get some bits of mild steel, and go to town. I'd spend a few extra bucks, though, and start with a pre-made header flange. In fact, if I can't get my KMW exhaust to fit, I might have to do that myself.

    Australia changes Government

Pete, thanks for that erudite analysis of the campaign and the issues in play. Tim, my read on Pete's post is that Kevin Rudd was able to articulate your ideals in a way that resonated with the voters.

    Australia changes Government

Wow, Chris, you have an amazing outlook on all things economic. As a US citizen I don't really have a dog in this fight but your comments are so...so...leftist, that I just can't help myself. Let's take them in order, shall we? In the US that would mean that you like to vote while you and...

    Cost of Iraq war???????

Pete, your post concisely explains much of the xenophobia of the Arab and Muslim world. Well said. Well played, Chris. By innuendo and extension, you have characterized those who supported or who continue to support military action as a combination of gullible or racist flag-wavers.

    Cost of Iraq war???????

Good suggestions. But the adverse consequences of abandoning Iraq to potential Islamofascists now are much higher than they were when we abandoned Vietnam to the communists, so any Iraq exit strategy (and I agree there should be one) needs to account for the long-term risks to western...

    Cost of Iraq war???????

There are some good points raised in this thread, by both sides. Yes, this war has cost a boatload of cash (although I'm dubious of the objectiveness and the quality of data that is used by the National Priorities project, a leftist organization closely affiliated with Moveon.org). Yes, there...

    A Piece of History

I know the story of the Mulsanne straight incident, Jim, from your previous posts on this forum. What an excellent conclusion to the story. I assume somebody expended a fair amount of effort to track you down as the owner of J6 and return the piece to you.

    front plate?

My mother drove a 1968 GTO and I remember that car had the hinged license plate over the gas cap. I think a lot of GM cars of that era did.

What Colour should my GT40 be?

I'm going with white (pearled) with deep blue stripes. Other color combinations I like though include the Hertz colors - black with metallic gold stripes, and the McLaren Gulf colors - dark blue with orange stripe and moustache.

    oil pans

I suspect it happens because Armando hand-fabricates each pan, and noboby's perfect. I had to oblong one bolt hole in my aluminum Armando's pan by a few thousandths.
