Unless you plan on driving around with the tail open the latches and body alignment pins carry the load with the tail closed ... Extra work for yourself but they are your belt and braces ....

impossible really as the wheels wouldn't fit in the arches if the body were so far forward

Not sure what your installation issue is But here is one at the shop right now I just took these pictures two minutes ago As you see the tail hinges a full 90 degrees and the hinge itself prevents the rail touching the ground
