    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Some while back I had a think about the roll cage. In theory given how flimsy the "A" pillars are a roll cage is a good thing in a GT40. The issue though is that it makes a helmet mandatory. I had a sit in and see where my head could hit and I could easily clout it on the "centre" bar and it...

More panelling. Outer sill panels. Right side (left done as well but not photographed it). Then the front right of the car. The rest of the nose panelling is done but the centre panels don't fit with them in place so they're still cleco'd on.

With the floor in place I tested I could actually feed the anti-submarine portion of the straps through the bracing I'd welded in. Then on to some interior panelling. Rear (upper rivets left for now as the upper panel will overlap) left - 4mm The upper row of rivets are 4.8mm...

Onto other stuff. Fitted the floor. About 1800 holes drilled! That's ~450 3mm pilot holes in the floor. ~450 3mm holes drilled through into the chassis, ~450 4mm holes (and a sea of clecos) and then finally ~450 4.8mm holes! Then PU adhesive and rivet it all in place...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

I probably should update this more than once a year... ;) So where are we. First lets address Morton's concern about the bolts for the bearings. There is plenty of clearance So bearing adaptors are done. I made up new rear arms with a spherical bearing inner and adjustable toe...

That mangled the URL and the link didn't work, fixed it in the quote above for you.

    "Vigilante 6.0 Vengeance" project

I did see one very neat solution to that window problem on Brian Thompsons Mirov II, basically the window folded out and then down. Hopefully this link works...

    Sandy's GT Forte build

Welcome to the club. Having looked at mine I think the issue here is the difference in length between the Corsa "B" and "C" type columns, the "C" being much longer whereas with the shorter "B" the UJ sits much further up and hence is a much lower angle.

This is mostly front uprights for which the whole point is to avoid the terrible geometry because everyone either uses Granada or has come from Granada. Mine will have between +5mm and -5mm scrub (adjustable) rather than the 100mm with Granada geometry. At the back I could just angle the...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

I'm working on all sorts of bits of the car at the same time. Still panelling on and off because that is tedious and takes ages but also working on other bits. Proper bolts arrived the otherday so I took the gap bed piece out, bolted the front upright blank to the faceplate and started...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

There is nothing really wrong with 3mm steel brackets assuming that you have a proper bolt in them in a tight hole. I will be reaming the holes and using proper grade bolts (class 5 is minimum, 8 recommended or if using metric class 8.8 minimum) with the shank precisely specified and no thread...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Ah. Ok. I make it about 3 or so degrees off vertical before it becomes really hard to try and twist the poly bush. Fine. I've already got to make up new front arms, what's one extra pair of arms. ;) Admittedly cutting the brackets off the chassis and welding a set back on with 7-8degrees of...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

I can't try it with the radius arms in as I don't yet have a set of clevis joints and haven't yet got the proper bolts.... but I've thrown the reverse a-arms in with the upper link and the shock mount on the upright lines up exactly with the chassis shock mount. That's though with zero degrees...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

I really don't want to use Granada. For a number of reasons but largely because I've sold it all and bought new stuff! Thanks Morten, you have just made me question my assumptions (not a bad thing to be doing tbh) and I've just taken a look... So I'd always assumed that as the originals were...

01E Gearbox - Gear selector shaft questions

I'd certainly be interested in a cheap and easy way to do a rod shift for the 01E!

Ah to have access to an A0 printer! FEA was done using Solidworks. Awesome piece of software but utterly unjustifiable to buy if you're not "using" it for business.

Obviously it depends on your printer but modern printers (especially laser) are *so* accurate. I printed out a set of hole spacings for all the widths of chassis member I was using. Only downside is of course that unless you have an A3 printer to hand you're limited to ~30cm. I forgot to...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Thanks Marko. My time spent on it per "session" has dropped massively but it all adds up. Trouble is at an hour a day I don't really have enough to be worth an update and I keep thinking "I've not done much" then I look back at photos taken ~4 months ago and I've done loads. So, more...

    Tornado mk1 carbonmono

IMO enough to be worth it! Even with pre-cut panels there are hundreds of hours worth of drilling, gluing and riveting. I've not kept track but I mean I spend two solid days this week and finished off 5 panels. At that rate and taking Tornado's "39 pre-cut panels" as a guide plus another day...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

I ATE'NT DEAD So 16 months since my last update and I've just been slacking in updating this thread. Lots has happened. So lets start off with seats. I created aluminium seat backs and bases based on my "test" seat. Seats are fixed although the backs hinge forward to allow access...
